This volume, however, is meant to do just that. In three acts the reader is moved from a well-defined introduction through the contours of the Christian worldview. In mapping out the contours of the Biblical worldview, one major thing sticks out. This brief flyover is done in four parts; creation, fall, redemption, and glorification. From context the authors then move to content in an attempt to answer the four basic questions; What is our nature? We possess personality, agency, intelligence, and creativity, and we are driven by loves and desires.

Does the Christian worldview hold any water? Does it correspond to reality? Does it make sense of things like suffering and pain? These questions, among others, are asked of the faith which Christians profess. The Christian worldview stands up to the scrutiny and passes with flying colors. We have seen that two of the traditional accusations of logical incoherence the problem of evil and the incarnation of Jesus do not uncover actual incoherence.

Some contours of a Christian worldview may be difficult to work out conceptually, but they are not illogical or irrational. Our faith is indeed a rational faith. The authors dive into three philosophical alternatives; Deism, Naturalism, and Postmodernism. While the writing is clear and the intention discernable, it can be a bit of a stretch for a beginning reader to capture the flow of thought here.

The authors, I think in seeing that point, have created very helpful side-bars and charts in order for one to follow the threads of each philosophy. They also place those philosophies side by side in an attempt to say, concisely, what the difference between each is and how they differ from what the Christian worldview says.

Next up comes a discussion of the largest religions next to Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. Since a study of Hinduism necessarily includes elements which other Eastern religions include, things like Karma and reincarnation, the authors make a point to deal with those points which have a larger impact beyond the adherents of Hinduism.

What does all this theory and practice of a Christian worldview have to do with me? The authors are careful to weave the answer to that question through each page and section. They do so with wisdom working as a single unit instead of three individual authors. The sections bind well and build off previous foundations laid.

The theoretical layer is laid down on top of revelation, both special and natural. A second layer is placed on top which shapes the Christian worldview. A third layer is applied in which other religions and philosophies are compared with the Christian worldview. Finally, we see how those layers shape our lives from conception to consummation.

We see that we are not merely intellectual beings but are embodied creatures made in the image of a creative, creator God. Whether children, spouses, youth groups, or other, this resource is a great diving board into the vast arena that is worldview study. With helpful side-bars, scenic views how ideas work in the real world , reflection questions, and ways to master the material, the authors have put together a vital resource.

From theory to practice the authors have left no stone unturned. Surely this is not the end-all resource for worldview studies but rather the door that is going to get you into the house. To steal an analogy from C. Maybe you need to sit in the hall a while and consider various worldviews and philosophy.

Where ever you find yourself in the vast house of worldviews, make sure the pursuit of truth is always before you. Michael Philliber Top Contributor: What is a worldview? How does one discern it's contours and courses? Are there ways to distinguish between worldviews? Why is any of this important? Naugle, chair and professor of philosophy at Dallas Baptist University, have teamed up to craft a manual ideal for answering these questions and more. Pursuing God's Perspective in a Pluralistic World" is a page casebound text book ideal for high school and freshman college classes, or for readers desiring to expand their education.

Part one is penned by Tawa Anderson who tackles the more theoretical. This author lays out what a worldview is, specifically that it is "the conceptual lens through which we see, understand, and interpret the world and our place within it" 8. Anderson further maps out the four major questions that worldviews answer: Lastly, since our "worldview should help us to make sense of the world around us rather than present cognitive or existential dissonance in the face of reality" 84 , he guides the reader through worldview analysis, especially what is truth; and the criteria needed to rightly gauge any particular worldview.

David Naugle authors the second part, delving into the outline of an explicitly Christian worldview.

Because the "human person is predominantly a "storied" creature" where "narratives and stories resonate with us more deeply than doctrinal claims" 98 , the author begins by telling the biblical story of creation, fall, redemption, and glorification. He then applies what was learned from Anderson in part one, and applies it to Christianity to see if it meets the standard. These three chapters in part two are a miniature Biblical and Systematic Theology, comprehensible by older teens and first year college students.

The third part of "An Introduction to Christian Worldview" compiled by Michael Clark takes a prolonged look into deism, naturalism, postmodernism, Hinduism and Islam. Clark applies the four worldview questions and analysis picked up earlier in the volume. These two chapters are a poignant series of practical exercises applying what has been learned. But as readers engage with these highly informative chapters, they are subtly brought to examine their own worldview.

What makes "An Introduction to Christian Worldview" ideal for academic settings is the way it is arranged. Not only do the chapters naturally flow and move forward, but numerical way-points mark the pages, and illustrative tools are interspersed through out. Many sections end with a bundle of reflection questions that help the student think back over the material.

Then each chapter finishes out with a "Mastering the Material" segment. These include a checklist of what the learner ought to have gained from the chapter. There is also a glossary of terms germane to the chapter. Then there are several suggestions for term papers that could be completed. Finally comes a core bibliography. The subject is heavy, and so the rationale is fairly rigorous. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, it is a text book ideal for high school and freshman college classes, as well as for readers desiring to expand their education.

I recommend the book.
