Kafka is notoriously difficult to translate; he often used words or sentences that were deliberately ambiguous or vague to leave the reader with a heightend sense of uncertainty.

This technique and others are lost in translation. You will appreciate his work much more in the language it was written in. Dark and frightening, this book is truly a masterpiece. The way Kafka writes, the choice of words brings K's helpless situation to the reader, leaving a feeling of desolation. The penultimate chapter, which brings the parable "Before the Law", is a fine work in itself. The text, I believe, is more relevant than ever.

Can't imagine that an English version would reflect the elegance of this story though I am a Kafka fan, what more can be said.
