Maui Widow Waltz (Islands of Aloha Mystery, book 1) by JoAnn Bassett

I am re-reading the Pali Moon series. I missed Pali and her friends but I had forgotten just how much I had enjoyed the unexpected humor, and all the twists and turns in the stories. The stories point out so many things that I like about Hawaii: Every few pages I go on the internet and search photos of plants, beaches, or English translation of the Hawaiian words.

I find that it makes the stories so much more interesting. Thank you, JoAnn Bassett for such a fabulous series. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. She's planning a wedding for an unrealistic couple while Farrah needs her help as her new house is haunted. Pali must find the murderer of Sifu Doug's wife and free him while her own 6 month old marriage is already troubled.

She's a strong woman with a lot on her plate. I'm glad Pali let JoAnn write her story. Feedback If you need help or have a question for Customer Service, contact us. Would you like to report poor quality or formatting in this book?

Some of those who gave this book weak reviews seem disappointed that Maui Widow Waltz is not great literature. While some may call this a "cozy" mystery it is not that either.

This book is a temporary and light escape from whatever is going on in the real world or maybe something a little different from the other books some of us might read that call for some thinking. Slightly predictable, a little bit scary, and sometimes silly this book can take you away from your cares and worries for a very short time. I like the Maui setting and the world's meanest woman--not bride who at first, is full of silly malapropisms.

I like Pali the centerpiece character of the book who despite seeming to be smart is in great financial distress. The main focus of her life does not seem to be catching a man and she doesn't seem to have some terrible divorce story like most of these books which I find refreshing. She likes men, appreciates men, but she lives her life happy with her good friends and her eyes open. This is a little bit of a murder mystery book with a couple of outrageous characters who need to be there to make life miserable for all the good people. I liked it and will probably, eventually, read more in this series while my mind is percolating on what really good hopefully book to read next.

I've enjoyed other books by Ms. Bassett so I took a chance on this one. For those who, like I, enjoy mysteries, this is a winner. There are no steamy sex scenes, the characters are well developed, and the twist at the end works well. The main character is a wedding planner, down on her financial luck.

When a client comes in who wants a wedding planned in just a week, to be held on Valentine's Day, Pali Moon, wedding planner extraordinaire has no idea what she's about to get into.

The groom, a Silicon Valley genius has been missing for some time, presumed to have gone overboard of his rental boat somewhere on the coast of Maui. The bride, Lisa Marie Prescott is more than a bit ditzy but believes the groom will show up for the wedding, and has convinced his business partner to stand in. Saying anything else about the plot would be a "spoiler. It isn't by any stretch a heavy weight mystery, but I doubt the author intended it to be. It is solid, and a fun read.

I enjoyed this very much and am now a JoAnn Bassett fan! Or buy it from Amazon here! In mid-November, Maui wedding planner Pali Moon is hustled into witness protection after sticking her nose in a hush-hush federal sting operation aimed at taking down a vicious drug lord.
