The book details a journey by the author, with his friend Harris a character created for the book, and based on his closest friend, Joseph Twichell , through central and southern Europe. While the stated goal of the journey is to walk most of the way, the men find themselves using other forms of transport as they traverse the continent. Log-in or create an account first! Housed in a fine morocco backed foldover case, the blue morocco spine panel with raised bands gilt, the compartments of the spine with gilt ruled panels enclosing gilt tooled corner devices. A superb copy of the book.

    Beautifully preserved, bright clean and very fine. The cloth in excellent condition and virtually without wear, the text-block clean and tight, the hinges sound. An excellent example of a book notoriously difficult to obtain in fine condition due to the content of the cloth. Copies of early states of the First Edition are scarce.

    The main goal of the trip was to walk most of the way, but the two travelers found themselves using different forms of transport as they traverse the continent. A very enjoyable and humorous work, in which the author blends autobiography and fiction, facts and tall tales. Samuel L. Clemens , who wrote under the pen name Mark Twain, is considered to be one of America's greatest humorists and writers of all times.
