That's also why they make such delicious villains in the thriller genre. Watching the characters dance around each other, even when some of them don't realize they're actually being choreographed, makes for a great novel. Elizabeth Avery is a beautiful woman with issues. She manipulates everyone around her, causing some to commit crimes and others to lavish her with affection - and one man to kill for her. She befriends Cassidy and worms her way into the trio's lives, trying to set one friend against another in an attempt to keep them away from her dark secre, as she leaves a number of bodies in her wake.

Heart of Ice is the first Wiehl novel to show us the villain right from the start, and it's an effective tool. It allows us to see behind the mask, to witness Elizabeth's sociopathic tendencies in all their glory. We see how she manipulates people with her body or by appealing to their own vanity. It makes you want to reach through the pages and hit her upside the head, but it also makes you want to continue reading.

All of this is told in parallel with a case that Nicole and Allison are working on, one right out of today's headlines. Colton Foley, the rather unimaginatively named "Want Ad Killer," is almost a carbon copy of the real-life "Craigslist Killer," even down to his being a medical student, with wrist restraints among the evidence found in his house it would have been nice if Wiehl had changed a few more details.

They know they're dealing with a cold-blooded murderer who could strike at any time. What they don't know is that they're already on a first-name basis with the killer. And one of them may be next on her list. Hardcover , pages. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up. To ask other readers questions about Heart of Ice , please sign up. I just love this series and will be sad when I finish the final book. My favorite part of the book was Nicole's experience after surgery. This is the third book in the series, something I didn't know when I chose it. I think it would benefit readers to read the others in the series first - not for the story but so you can better "bond" with the characters.

Elizabeth is fascinating and very well written. I disliked her immensely, but I couldn't take my eyes off my Kindle when she was there.

I wanted to see what she would do next. The "triple threat" all did their jobs well and were pretty realistic. Their friendship didn't get in the This is the third book in the series, something I didn't know when I chose it. Their friendship didn't get in the way of the case I've known some books that have done that - and it becomes more about the friendship than the mystery.

The problem was that I hadn't read the other novels so the relationship felt somewhat shallow to me. Although this is put out by a Christian publisher, one of the three is very anti-religion and one is a Christian who mentions she prays every now and then. There is no Christian themes or people accepting Christ, no prayers, sermons or anything like that in the book. This could just as easily have been published by a secular publisher. It was an interesting story the pacing was good throughout. I want to thank Thomas Nelson for providing my copy in exchange for my honest review.

As Elizabeth leaves a trial of bodies, the women much piece together the clues in or to stop her. I received this book from BookSneeze. I must say that I did not like this book. There was a lot of action in this, and I do love action, but the book was kind of boring. The plot was very predictable. I always new what was going to happen next, I could just guess and boom, I was right.

I didn't anticipate in this book. You know how you read a book and you just can't wait to see what happens next, this didn't happen to me. The characters, I didn't care for. I feel like I didn't really get to know them. There wasn't enough character development for any of the characters. I didn't connect with any of the characters and I don't like that about a book. The book was fun and entertaining at times but it wasn't a page turner.

It didn't keep my interest. But if you like mystery and murder, maybe this book is for you. May 02, Jerry rated it really liked it. This is the third book I've read in the past two or three weeks that was written by her. Just like the previous Triple Threat books, this one is an enthralling and intense murder mystery; only this time, there's a femme fatale that seems like the girl next door.

Even mature adults may find it scary. Jan 05, Victor Gentile rated it it was amazing. From the inside jacket flap: She's a master at manipulating people, convincing strangers to do the unthinkable. Because Elizabeth has no intention of getting caught--not when she's having this much fun.

Heart of Ice: A Triple Threat Novel

She learned a long time ago that the safest place to hide is in plain sight Elizabeth Avery is insane but you would never know it to see her or talk with her. She is a manipulative genius that only wants her own way no matter what it takes to get it. The Triple Threat ladies really have their work cut out for them as they try to piece together the clues and catch Elizabeth. This is an exciting book, extremely well paced and suspenseful.

I am enjoying this series and look forward to the next book. If you would like to listen to interviews with other authors and professionals please go to www.

The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Jun 21, Paula rated it really liked it. Sissy was truly a scary character. She smiled while stabbing you in the back and used people for her own purposes all the time. Just makes you more aware of the people you let into your life. This was a well written book and I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Dec 28, Laura rated it really liked it. When the Want Ad Killer attacks several ladies in the area, the three are on the case. While they investigate the murders, they become unaware of a psychopath Elizabeth who has wormed her way into their lives, pretending to be a friend while orchestrating events to get what she wants. Will the three friends be able to discover Elizabeth's plan before another person dies?

This is the first book I've read in the series, so I felt a little disconnected from the characters, who were probably developed through the first two books. I am a character-driven reader.

Heart of Ice

I love the idea of their friendship and their careers intermingling, but I felt like I didn't really know them. However, the character of Elizabeth was well-developed and quite interesting The action was face-paced and full of twists and turns. This fast read is sure to keep your attention from the first to the last page. Fans of action packed suspense will love this book, but I do suggest reading the books in order.

I do plan to go back and read Face of Betrayal and Hand of Fate. I received this book in exchange for my review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Feb 18, Judy rated it it was ok. I had a "Love-Hate" relationship with this book. Some of these people are supposed to be intelligent. I have to admit, some were just misfits who could be taken in by just about anything. I am losing respect for Cassidy, the reporter. She is all about getting the story, and talks about murder victims as if they are just a dirty pile of laundry that you walk around.

I find it hard to believe that her 2 I had a "Love-Hate" relationship with this book. I find it hard to believe that her 2 friends, who are in law enforcement, share things with her that should not be shared. Also,in a situation when you clearly have the upper hand of having a weapon, why would you lay it down and jump in a pool, when you know you are not as strong a swimmer as the criminal? Anyway, I read this in 2 sittings and found I had to finish it just to find out the twists and turns of the story.

Hoping the next one,Eyes of Justice, shows a little more "smarts". Oct 30, Chad Stewart rated it really liked it. This was a very enjoyable book. My Goodreads closed while I was writing my review, so I will keep it short this time.

There were just a couple of things I did not like. There was a hole in the story that would have changed the story.

There are some areas that were predictable. Other than these, I thought the book was very good, and I had a hard time not reading it. It did not have the language and romance that most of these books have. I was able to read it without feeling guilty about it. I liked the story, especially the character of Elizabeth. She is terribly evil, cold and manipulative. As the title of the book, she had a "Heart of ice".

Also, I liked that the lives of the "Triple Threat" were normal and conform to the reality of many people. They are not only heroines against crime, but also human. Llena de misterio, intriga, asesinatos, robos, etc. Ahora no puedo esperar para leer el ultimo libro de esta serie.

Sep 17, Dave Hoff rated it it was amazing. Liz can really write. She takes the reader down a highway of emotions, is the TV anchor that trusting, is the FBI agent too concerned over her cancer, and the D. End comes fast and all's right with the world in Portland, Oregon. Oct 06, Nancy rated it liked it. I gave this a 3 star because I have not read the first two. I actually listened to this book on CD as I traveled. It was good, but I think I will be better after I read the first two and then re-read this. I will repost when I read it again. Mar 23, Conni Harness rated it it was amazing.

Love, love, love this author. Really loving the Triple Threat Club too!!!! I'm so glad there is at least one more book in this series!!! Feb 22, Shelley rated it liked it Shelves: This book, to me, was part Women's Murder Club, and partly a story about faith, and determination in order to beat evil villians, and your own body betraying you.

Allison is trying hard to bring a killer to justice called the Want Ad Killer. Colton Foley is a medical student who has been accused of murdering women after he lures them to hotel. The reason for his name is more than obvious to any reader. Allison also has to deal with her deliquent sister Lindsay who suddenly shows up at her door and asks her to take her in.

She has been in trouble since she was 13 years old. Thankfully, Allison has a husband, Marshall, and Cassidy and Nicole to fall back on. Nicole has never been married. Nicole goes through trying experience of anyone in this story.

Triple-Threat Andrew Rannells Talks 'Girls'

The authors really do a service to women who think they might have breast cancer, but are afraid to get mammograms for fear they might be sick. They show Nicole going through each step from the diagnosis to the actual removal. Nicole has always dreamed that it would be her daughter who would become ill, and that she would end up taking care of her.

Nicole's emotional ride was well thought out, and appreciated by this reviewer. I appreciated that her best friends gave her space to deal with this, and not bug the heck out of her each and every step of the way. Cassidy was once the Channel 4 hotshot until a new intern, Jenna, comes along and starts stealing some of her thunder. Cassidy starts to take boot camp training from Elizabeth, and soon gets lured into the Game that Elizabeth plays so very well.

She is duped out of spending a ton of money on her, and later ends up saving Makayla. Thankfully, Cassidy does her homework and discovers that Jenna was actually trying to catch a story, and a killer at the same time. A Triple Threat Novel: Lis Wiehl, April Henry. But what she has planned will make your blood run cold. At first glance, the crimes appear random.

But these are more than random crimes. They're moves in an increasingly deadly game. And the one element they have in common: Elizabeth Avery has a winsome smile and flawless figure, but underneath is a heart of ice. She's a master manipulator, convincing strangers to do the unthinkable. And she orchestrates it all without getting too close. They know they're dealing with a cold-blooded murderer who could strike at any time.
