Das Christentum: Was man wirklich wissen muss (German Edition)

Comment I agree with anna; yotix's claims are wildly inaccurate and entirely unsupported, obviously based only on a mishmash of hearsay. Some biblical scholars think that because all Jewish men and in particular respected teachers were expected to marry, Jesus was very likely also married, even though the Bible says nothing about a wife. Others think that because he eventually did not live a settled domestic life but traveled from place to place, he may have been unusual for his time with regard to his personal relationships, as he was in so many other ways.

That, too, is entirely possible. The real answer is, we just don't know. From the biblical stories alone, it's not even entirely clear how many different women there were named Mary. The popular myth conflated several different passages, and added levels of interpretation heavily influenced by the surrounding secular culture, much as happened with the Christmas story.

That historical process, and not the biblical texts, gave rise to the image of Mary Magdalene as the archetypal whore in the whore-virgin dyad, which in turn came to be accepted uncritically in the church for centuries, because it fit so easily into typical male ways of thinking, and men dominated the church.

If you're not willing at least to read the original text passages and get the facts straight -- which mostly means acknowledging how fragmentary the information in the actual text is -- you should refrain from idle speculation. Comment This website http: My personal favourite is still the King James. Comment Nochmal zur Ausgangsfrage. Du findest den Text online unter www. Comment For real Bible lovers Hebrew and Greek are the only way to go… with an occasional excursion into the versio vulgate in Latin launched a few centuries ago by St.

And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Salvation is of the LORD. Did anyone cite this interesting link whether the work meets the highest standards of scholarship I will not judge: Note the multilingual section, which, although it does not include all the major translations, can be helpful at times. Comment The King James Version has given rise to phrases which are omnipresent in modern English, so much so, in fact, that many or most people don't realize they're biblical.

To that extent it's an essential part of English culture. This is not always recognized, as people nowadays think much of the strange phraseology to be simply archaic. But people didn't speak or write like that even then. The KJV was never "modern English". Another problem that is not often mentioned in the context of biblical translation, but deserves at least a footnote, is that some of the books of the New Testament were written by non-native speakers.

The writers of Matthew, Mark, John and Revelation plus some of the lesser-known books are written in "strange" Greek. It is difficult to know quite how to deal with this.

King James Bible entspricht der Luther-Bibel. Da es sich hier ja um ein Sprachforum handelt: Bible translations have become quite politicized in recent years. Provide feedback about this page.
