Especially good for someone who has just gone through the loss of a loved one. May 19, Caroline rated it liked it. An easy read - a bit old fashioned. I was given this book by my brother, who bought it at a Christian bookstore, a few months after my husband died. It's quite different from most grief books in that it doesn't describe the process and factors involved in widowhood in great detail. It does none of that. Instead, it's more of a devotional companion, a way to guide you through thinking, praying, and contemplating your loss each day or week. Each entry, or chapter, or whatever you'd like to term it, is two pages, so that when you hold I was given this book by my brother, who bought it at a Christian bookstore, a few months after my husband died.

And be forewarned that it is overtly spiritual: With that said, I didn't like it. Hated it, even, but it's not my taste in grief book at all. But it could be very useful to someone else. It could be good for someone wanting something short to read daily, to provide a context for devotional, contemplative exploration within a Christian perspective.

Or for someone who doesn't have a lot of time, energy, or attention span all true as a new widow to give toward reading grief books or toward focused grief. I didn't like it, but that doesn't mean someone else wouldn't. Jan 19, Cheryl B rated it it was amazing. This is a wonderful book for those in the early days of widowhood. It is very easy reading which is what I needed when I first became a widow. It has 2 page chapters with a prayer and Bible verses to read. This book gives practical suggestions and comfort for the broken heart.

I loved this book and would recommend it for every widow or widower to read. A friend gave this to me and I would recommend it for any friend looking for something to give a widow. I was looking for more concrete answers as someone who was married 33 years. Too bad she didn't put in some averages, like how long before survivors get rid of the spouses clothes I know I'll keep some for sentimental sake. So many thoughts go through your mind when you lose a spouse. Not knowing what lies in your future is the scariest because you are alone now.

You are waking up alone to an empty house every day and going to bed alone at night. You wonder what lies ahead for you one minute then you just maintain while continuing your day to day living; going to work, come home. There is very good advice in this book and not only that but you can relate with everything you read and you know you will pull through. My Neighbor's husband passed away, they were married 54 years. I bought this book for her to read.

She told me that it is a good book but at this point she reads just a little bit and then goes back to it when she feels strong enough. She lost her husband on March 31st , so this is still very fresh for her.

This book was recomended by a friend and what a find! This book is simple straight forward and provides uplifting and guiding messages during times of loss. My friend who lost her husband 4 months ago recieved the book and then ordered one for all her grown children.

Very helpful and God based. It provides us with a compuss in the hardest of times.

Gave this as a gift to my friend who had lost her husband after 60 years of marriage. One person found this helpful. I lost my partner it helped.
