This book was my first introduction to the Madeline Mann series, even though it is number 2. The author did an excellent job in the first chapter of catching me up with the major characters, while summarizing the activities in the first book - as well as introducing the premise of the second story.

What I liked about the book is that the story is not just about a murder; Madeline's investigation is intertwined with her daily life, which revolves around family, friends and fiance, with all the positives and negatives that come from having people that care about you and want a say in how you run your life. Since the story deals with the possible murder of a nun, and Madeline is a graduate of Catholic school, the main character does a bit of inner searching regarding God and faith, but the self-examination is well integrated into the story and appropriate for the character in the situation.

Nice cozy, with interesting characters I would like to meet again. Madeline Mann is such a cute character. Madeline's curiousity and skills draw her into investigating the death of Sr. Joanna at the request of Sister Moira. Sister Moira has had recurrent dreams of Sr.

Madeline Mann

I thought the mild paranormal aspects were well handled and sort of realistic. Yet the book failed. This is supposed to be a mystery and it did not work in so many ways as a mystery. I never had any interest whatsoever in the deceased. I never felt the mystery was at all compelling. I didn't care about the clues or the hunt. I read hundreds of mysteries a year, and can only remember a few that were as well written as this and that totally failed to interest me in the central thesis: The solution wasn't totally out of left field, but was somewhat obscure.

If you want to meet interesting characters and have a pleasant afternoon's reading, you could do worse than this. If you want to read a good mystery, look elsewhere. Although I missed the first novel, I found that this one was complete in itself. The death of a popular nun ten years ago brings up some questions and memories.

Kindle Editions

Maybe I'm getting lazy, but I missed several good clues. This author knows how to bury them in the text naturally. Slow moving and rather boring in parts.
