I've been looking for a book like this for awhile now, and I think if I can read through it, it will be beneficial to me at this point in my career taking on more residential work. The font is thick, the text is dense, and the printing quality is fuzzy. It looks like the font was rasterized and then printed on an inkjet printer.

Steel + Residential Architecture - An Architect's How-to Guide

This may seem nitpicky, but it diminishes my ability to read the useful material. This book is helpful on many levels and lets you get a great in depth look at residential architecture. Clears up a lot of the mystery and sets you straight on just how "easy" designing houses really is. Helpful insight into everything from contracts with client, to meeting with clients, billing, drawings, contractors, and close out. Great examples at end of chapters to bring it all together.

  4. Also, wonderful section on clients to avoid. The content aside, this book is very poor print quality. Not worth the purchase at any price. If I were the author putting together my best efforts for this book, I would be horrified at the resulted printing. One person found this helpful. Michael Malone's "Guide to Residential Design" not only delivers on the title's promise but goes beyond that, as the book is a little gem full of practical advice and examples that could be on every architecture firm's library.

It is well written and comes with guidance, advice and examples that can be put to good use in the practical world of architectural business and design.

The Architect's Guide to Residential Design

This is one of the best books I have purchased. As a custom home designer, I found it very informative and have been able to use many of the examples the author has suggested. As an architecture student and contractor this book was excellent for me in explaining the process and tips on working in the real world.
