About the Book

Jul 19, Michael Hartnett rated it it was amazing. Brink is a charming writer who deftly blends nostalgia with gentle satire. Tellingly, Brink does not use these journeys into the past as an opportunity to wallow in nostalgia. My first professional sale was Waltz In Flexitime , a nifty, quickfooted little time-travel story which appeared in Other Edens 2 , a paperback anthology edited by Robert Holdstock and Chris Evans although Roger Robinson will tell you that my first professional acceptance was a drabble entitled Concrete Fire , a word vignette, all cyberpunk moodyness, which appeared in the 1st Beccon Drabble collection, The Drabble Project.

Then I sold my cyberpunk meisterwerk, Corrosion , to Interzone in And then came my first short story collection, Iron Mosaic , published by the grace of Storm C, by Immanion Press a few years ago with a terrific intro from Ian McDonald and since reprinted in glossy paperback.

And that, ladies and gentlebeings, is a landmark of an entirely different stature of ego. You would also discover my passion for SF and cyberpunk, as well as a range of other fantastical tales. Be sure to tell the author who you are, what organization you are with, how many books you need, how they will be used, and the number of reviews, if any, you would be able to provide. With thirty in total, each story in this anthology reads as a stand-alone, and they vary in length and substance as distinctly as they do in tone and tenor. Along with the work presented for the first time now, Prescott includes pieces that have been previously published, such as Bad Luck Henry, which made its debut in the Atlantic Salmon Journal in This is fitting as it's a story about a fishing guide who might just be able to finally drop an unfortunate nickname.

My favorite is Four Lies in Cairo, where a group of tourists in Egypt discusses why they don't believe the locals regarding how some of the antiquities were built and later destroyed , reflecting on an overall lack of honesty and then being surprised in an ironic way. Irony is an underlying theme in a lot of Prescott's work, and the blend of humor and intelligent writing balances some of the lighter fare out well.

Tall tales and short stories for all ages

I loved the illustrations, which corresponded with the title of each story. They're raw and real, and add a personal touch to the book as a whole.
