Resources on Faculty Retirement
The first ILR began in in New York city, but it was not until the early s that the idea spread rapidly. There are currently about ILRs in the United States and Canada, dedicated to meeting the personal development and wellness needs of older adults. TALK is a participatory learning experience with no quizzes, grades or prerequisites.
The learning process is lively, full of discussion, controversy, humour, insight and wisdom. In addition to participating in courses, you can become a course facilitator, plan curriculum, identify speakers, prepare newsletters, recruit new members, help organize special events or promote TALK. Established more than 20 years ago, our volunteer organization gives older adults 50 years plus a chance to flex their mental muscles, learn a second language, play a musical instrument, practice various arts, experience the world with armchair travel or participate in various recreational activities.
We offer programs at minimal cost because our experienced volunteer instructors generously share their interests, skills, and knowledge. Classes and dates are organized by a volunteer advisory committee. We have two semesters of 24 classes each, Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 a.

I hope you were able to find what you needed. I am 68 and live in Tennessee. I am now happily pursuing my degree Bachelor in Fine Art degree, a life long dream of mine. I need to take courses in domestic violence and management of a non profit organization. I would like to study online since I do not live in the states. Thank you very much. I am interested in furthering my education, you have to if you plan on continuing to work. It seems as though my previous credits are not acceptable, maybe because of the time period, so I will need to start all over, which I do not mind; however, I can no longer afford to pay for tuition, books, etc.
What avenue can I take to get the free senior education, I am 60 years old living in Virginia beach va. I would like to continue my education and receive my bachelor degree. I am a resident of Florida and would like to complete these course within 15 months or less if possible. Any advice as to how I should pursue this goal would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in some free tech classes. U3A aims to be as accessible as possible — classes are held in various locations. If you live in an isolated town, are unwell or have difficulty leaving your home, you may prefer Virtual U3A. This is an online learning and discussion forum for older people around the world. Each group has its own volunteer leader or co-ordinator who has a particular interest or expertise in the particular subject. Each U3A class is different, so membership fees vary.
The fees are often lower than those of most adult education courses because each U3A is run by volunteers.
