Vila Nova de Milfontes is dominated by a large estuary and ecosystem, dominated by the Mira River that gives shelter to several species of birds and marine life, in addition to wild boar and fox in the surrounding woods. There are several beaches near the urban areas that regularly attract tourists. The Nations Park, widely known even to English speaking visitors as Parque das Nacoes, is not a garden proper, but rather an area of Lisbon. The area stretches in the very proximity of the Tagus Estuary.

Today it is Portugal's most famous fishing village, having always drawn visitors to its beach and genuinely colorful life. Very popular among sunbathers, the area takes on a new life during the summer months with the entertainment continuing well into the night at the many bars and discos and during local festivals.

Right by the beach is the imposing Aveiro Lighthouse, built over a century ago and, at 62 metres in height is the tallest in Portugal.

Figueira da Foz and Buarcos aerial view Figueira da Foz is a coastal resort and harbour at the mouth of the River Mondego.
