Statistics and meaning of name Snowy
As the Mesozoic Era ended 65 million years ago, the dinosaurs were dying out, and the Rocky Mountains were crumpling skyward. In concert with their rise, the forces of erosion began to work on these highlands and aprons of debris. Carried by wind and water, they spread out from their flanks.
Throughout much of the Tertiary Period, the mountain summits barely poked above these vast plains of debris. Then, in the Miocene Epoch some 20 million years ago a second, more general uplift of the Mountain West began, adding feet to elevations across the Colorado Plateau and Rocky Mountain Province. This uplift, which continued into the Pliocene, accelerated stream erosion throughout the region; the process was further enhanced by the cold, wet climate of the Pleistocene, as mountain glaciers carved deep canyons and massive amounts of meltwater carried away much of the erosional debris that had enveloped the mountains.
From the coordinates, the sedimentary rocks to the east Late Miocene are 10 million years old.

It was green then, and there was a massive mob of kangaroos taking their leisure with the homestead in the background. At the time of my visit, I knew little about the area. I was delighted to buy a copy of this book in Adaminaby recently, and have enjoyed reading the reminiscences of those who spent time in and around the Currango High Plains working with stock or visiting. I am in awe of those who lived in what can be inhospitable country without the modern conveniences that many of us take for granted.
I was reminded, too, of the skill of cooking on a fuel stove my grandmother had one and the joys of playing I am grateful to the editors for collecting and publishing these stories.

These vignettes of the past are accompanied by photographs of people, places and paintings , and a few poems. This slender book is a tribute to those who lived and worked in the area and has a permanent home on my bookshelf. The first few days of winter in Adaminaby. The mountains have snow on their peaks.
