Create display or folding cards to place on the table in front of each baked treat for sampling.

The cards will contain the information provided on the RSVP, such as the name of the cookie recipe, the person who baked them, and any food allergies nuts, gluten, etc. An easier way to let guests know what to expect is to create a menu listing all the different cookies that each person is set to bring. This is why the invitation phase of planning a cookie swap party is so important.

Asking for as many details as possible on the RSVP will allow you to produce a display table that will wow and inform your guests! Just make sure the table is large enough to fit all the cookies and for more than one guest to fill up at one time.

You can ask participants to bring their own containers, or you could get a little more creative and set up a packaging station full of boxes, labels, waxed paper or parchment paper, ribbons, twine, bags, gift tissue paper, tags, string, etc. Basically, any holiday trimmings and tools like scissors and hole punchers that will help your guests box up their cookies in style are up for grabs here. Cookie exchange day is finally here! Cookies are the name of the game, but even the most avid cookie fanatics need a healthy balance of eats and drinks.

Light, make-ahead appetizers will save you some time in the kitchen, and bite-sized savory foods and dips will free up the hands of your guests for more cookie tasting. Make up your own activities for guests to interact with each other, or you can have them go around and tell holiday stories and share the reason they decided to bake a particular recipe or what it means to them.

This way, everybody will go home with several dozen in different flavors to give as gifts. If that seems daunting, scale back; if seven of you have six dozen to swap, you will take a few less of each kind but will still have an ample number.

Decide who will make what, coordinating ahead of time to avoid duplicates. Sturdy cookies are best very thin or delicate varieties won't pack well.

At the swap, it helps to know which cookie is which. Put folding place cards in front of each variety as a label, or print out our template. Write or print the name of the cookie and the contributor on the card: Ask guests to bring wrapping materials; you might also keep some on hand in case any are overlooked. Set everything out on large worktables.

Consider stocking the station with tags or sticky labels, ribbons, twine, cardboard boxes, sturdy paper plates, baking papers, scissors, hole punches, tissue paper, cellophane, and other trimmings. Play it safe and bring your own plastic containers or baggies to pack up your loot. Try for a date early in December before your guests are inundated with other festivities.

A Sunday is a great way to give late-planning bakers one more day of prep. Start the party in the morning around 11 a. Make your own cook ie book: Ask guests to RSVP with their cookie choice and recipe so you can rule out any duplicates Head here for the step-by-step Cookie Exchange checklist.

Then, take the recipes to a local print or copy shop to have them bound for an inexpensive memento to a delicious day. Write the name of the baker and her confectionary creation on a tented place card to set out on the table.

Take a cue from your party start time on what to serve guests to drink: Anything before noon is a coffee and tea affair. Get a little more liberal with your afternoon libations and offer partygoers wine or sparkling cider. Mix up a batch of pomegranate martinis or try a two-ingredient, non-alcoholic cranberry-ginger fizz.
