Please try again later. This was a movie I truly liked. I can't say it's a Five Star flick but it's a solid Four Star film. I feel as if the critics were too hard on this film. In it, he said, Quote: Ludicrous thriller in which weirded-out therapist Willis heads to LA for a breather; he is immediately immersed in a murder mystery, and involved with mysterious March: Maltin said that the: Maltin went on to add that the Director's Cut of this film Which I'm Reviewing has 17 minutes of extra footage.

This is not nearly as bad story-wise as the mainstream critics would have you believe, has a considerable amount of non-obvious suspense, some reasonable action sequences and bittersweet romantic background. Willis is a psychologist in New York who has a patient jump to her death from his Park Avenue office and, devastated by this, he takes a trip to Los Angeles to stay with a college friend and fellow psychologist.

The LA psychologist is killed early on and Bruce takes over his group therapy patients, one of whom may be the killer. Willis meets Jane in a fender bender accident and it's love at first sight but it seems she's not quite what she appears to be: The rest was filler, but between the two reviews you will get the gauge of the storyline. Now for my personal take. I first rented this film from the now defunct Potomac Video Store. It came with a five tape special.

I loved it when I saw it in or I was surprised by how much I'd forgotten about the film in 20 years' time. For instance, I had no idea who the bad guy was in the film. I actually thought it was someone from the group. Jane March was married to the producer of this film, according to Patrick Riley. Her portrayal of the vulnerable and innocent Rose showed much range for a young actress with very little acting experience.

She did well and this was a testament to Richard Rush, the director. Patrick Riley went on to say she [March] is an angel. See Jane March in The Lover and you will be in even more awe of her sexuality. I'm the th person to review this fine film. Buy it and you won't be disappointed. My one quibble is it is only available in full screen and not in widescreen.

Today it would be rated hard R, but at the time it was NC Prime Video Verified Purchase. Entertaining, with an out-there conclusion that my wife guessed 35 minutes into the movie. But it was still fun. The sex is pretty explicit, not real sex, but plenty of real nudity. It was rated NC when it came out, which killed it in theaters.

The Directors Guild of America attempted to intervene on the matter. The battle ultimately ended when Rush suffered a near-fatal heart attack and became hospitalized. Months later, after Rush recovered, he compromised with Vajna that the producer's cut would be released theatrically and that the director's cut would see a video release.

The film received mostly negative reviews around the time of its release. To call it absurd would be missing the point, since any shred of credibility was obviously the first thing thrown overboard. It's so lurid in its melodrama and so goofy in its plotting that with just a bit more trouble, it could have been a comedy. Thompson of The New Times praised March's performance and wrote: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Some of this article's listed sources may not be reliable.
