A Table Before Me

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

First off the scripture reads that it was God who prepared David a place at his enemies table.

John Osteen on the other side says that our enemies come to us whenever they need something this is not found in the scripture. Then whenever something bad happens to us we are to just imagine God making a feast for us wherein God is serving us at the table in front of our enemies something wrong with this picture.

Using one's imagination to picture God doing something is like me imaging putting all my past hurts, pain and suffering into a box with a lock and imagine myself digging a whole then bury it throwing away the key and of course you'll only have an imagined healing I've been told this before. But our imaginations can dream up things that may sound good but truth is not present. In my opinion John Osteen's imagination has brought things into his interpretation of this scripture that simply is not there.

I really like this example. There is a lesson in every sentence! Could preach for weeks on this. When rich people had a banquet, they would invite only the people they felt were important and worthy to attend. Furthermore, the banquets and feasts were always held outside. They wanted people to see who was at their party. They wanted to be seen with other important people. If the king had a banquet, those who were on the guest list were seen as those whom the king most favored.

To be seen at the king's banquet was really saying something about your importance in the community. Others would look on in envy as they were not invited and they have to watch you feast and enjoy the favor of the king. So, with that in mind, David says that God has prepared Him a banquet in the presence of His enemies, whoever those enemies may be.

Of course Cindy can't deny a request like that.

The question is, is this Jeremiah's past catching up with him? Or do mysteries and trouble just tend to follow Cindy around constantly endangering her life?

Add to the fact that people want someone in their circle dead, Cindy's parents and brother arrive for a visit. Cindy's mother and brother are horrible people! Cindy is a much better daughter than I ever could be with the way she holds her tongue when her mother is so deliberately insulting and hurtful.

A Table Before Me is fast-paced and hard to put down! I enjoyed every moment of it and was caught up in the excitement and drama of every moment. As with all of Debbie Viguie's books in this series, this one too ends on a cliffhanger that has this reader desperate for the next installment While I agree that cliffhangers are a bit fun and leave the reader wanting more, there is also a sense of unfairness in keeping us in suspense for the next installment that usually happens only once a year or longer.

I'm a bit torn, if the books were just churned out one after another would they be as good, or would the creativity it takes to write cause the storyline to suffer? I want to see the ending of Jeremiah and Cindy's story, but I also want it done well, soooooooo, it looks like I will have to resign myself to being patient, it looks like we have several more books to go and several more years to get there!

One person found this helpful. This book was definitely an improvement over the last two books of the series. The last one seemed to have a scattered plot and the one before seemed to go nowhere. This story line was to the point, well written, and though it followed the several main characters, they were together in the plot and it all weaved together well.

A Table Before Me

The ending was rather abrupt, but the whole book was filled with twists and turns and suspense. I started reading this series from books in the library and it became one of my favorites, so much so that I have bought the books from the beginning to have as my own collection. I loved the characters, the story, the editing not so much and I was intrigued as to where the various story lines would go. I was spoiled by starting after a number of books were already written and published, so I could read through them quickly and continuously. However, by looking at the publishing dates, I see now that the original books came out much, much more quickly than they do now.

Now the books come out more than a year apart, which is not a good idea for books which are written with cliffhanger endings. It is good for a series book to come out with something aiming at the next book, but this last book has several story lines hanging, rather unpleasantly. That is my main complaint, along with the realization that the next book will probably not be out for well over a year from now. As a matter of fact, it was so long since the last book came out, that I had just about forgotten about the series, and only happened to find out that this book was out and ready for reading.

That is my main complaint about the series. I have aged quite a bit since the first book came out, and the way the series must go, following the Psalm, I literally am concerned that I will not be around to read the end of the series! I, like Jeremiah, wish she would get on with it. I know that the author is writing several series, but I wish she would put more emphasis on this one.

She may lose readers simply because they have forgotten to keep watch. I felt that the story was very disconnected from past books. It was one emergency after another and so outrageous. I know it's a novel but it was way out there. Cindy's mother and her brother actions were way beyond their characters in past books.

It got a 3 star rating only because the editing was so much better this time.. Otherwise I would give it only a 2.

If this were one of the first books in the series I wouldn't have spent the money on the rest. I was very shocked that this booked made me feel this way. Debbie Viguie has a gift of drawing you into suspense, intermingled with mirth, joy, frustration ok, this part is about frustration that the book is over, but the story continues in the next book, which is not available yet , and lessons on faith, family, friendships, and all that they are supposed to be, and not supposed to be. Oh, my friend, I do be believe you enjoy watching us wait so eagerly for the next one, just like someone who loves to share the joy of a child who is about to get the best gift, ever.

And I admit that I so enjoy this journey with you. Not up to Ms. While the plot moved forward, it did just barely. Seemed like everything was a rush then the story ended. I found myself looking for more just sure I missed something.

While this series is great and I will read the next in the series, if it's like this one very short and very rushed , it'll sadly be the last. If you can, wait to see if this one goes on sale. Just getting better and better. Each book in the series helps one learn more about each character and makes one love each book more than the last one.

Just wish they were published quicker! I love this series, and this one is especially exciting. Every time I think I will stop at the end of a chapter, something happens and I have to keep reading. I love that the characters are opening up and we begin to see connections. I loved the read. I can not wait till book number 16 comes out! See all 28 reviews.
