The Hobbit - The eagles arrive

Best story in a while Lots of real history with enough story to entertain as well. I found none of the poor editing I see so often. Well written a good read. Nov 26, Pat Raab rated it really liked it. Look forward to reading about the further career of Lucius. Jul 08, Donald Houston rated it it was amazing. Feb 05, caz wright rated it it was amazing. A tale of war and the rise of a raw recruit to greatness. I'm not usually a fan of war stories but as a huge fan of historical fiction which mixes actual people with fictional characters I decided to read this story.

I'm glad I did as the story is more than fighting and killing, its about a young man who starts off his career as a soldier as much to annoy and defy his fathers wishes for him as it is a story of his wish to see the world, gain knowledge and seek his own path and destiny.

Very real A tale of war and the rise of a raw recruit to greatness.

Dragons Among the Eagles - Rogue Phoenix Press

Very real characters and an insight to life in the harsh reality of the Roman Legions. Jul 13, Joan rated it it was amazing Shelves: Seriously, I loved it. The characters were well-drawn and engaging, the writing flowed and I felt 'comfortable' in the era. Sometimes a book has too much research within the writing as if the author has done all this research and is absolutely determined to wring every last drop of it out onto the page. Yes, there were a lot of historical facts included but those were pertinent to the story and there were moments of real Great story telli This was great!!

Yes, a 'blokey' book but one that merits five stars. Dec 04, Thomas rated it really liked it.

The making of a hero. A well written exciting novel describing the growth of character with challenging events and opportunities leading to promotion and recognition. Historical settings seem accurate and plausible.

We in the West are aware of the remarkable performance of the South Korean Samsung — which occupies the number one position in cell phone sales worldwide — but we tend not to have heard of countless Chinese platforms and manufacturers that sometimes outsell their American and European competitors. What is the strategy of these Chinese behemoths? How do they compete with their Western counterparts, particularly those from America?

What impact might they have on the Web as we know it? In an inspiring article published in Asia Times , Brett Daniel Shehadey describes the personalities of the United States and China on the basis of their respective national symbols: The eagle is proud, it knows what it wants, but if it were forced to walk on the ground, it would find itself in grave danger.

The dragon embodies very different virtues. It moves secretively, as though invisible, and gives no hint as to what its next attack might be. This creature of ancient wisdom is able to imitate other animals — it can both fly and walk, only to then disappear.

It is confident of its own superiority but does not show it, for fear of envy. The greatest danger for the dragon lies in overexposure: This play on images is used by Shehadey to analyze geopolitical issues, but — as we will try to do here — it can also be applied to the digital sphere. In general, American Internet companies prioritize building brands in their domestic market; they then export their products and services without any major modifications.

One of the overarching trends in the sector is towards cloud computing: While standardization and cloud computing provide the eagle with undeniable advantages — speed of reaction, simplification of processes — they also involve risks. Firstly, American Web companies often underestimate local contexts — the cultural, political and regulatory specificities of each market— which might help explain the difficulties encountered by Apple in Brazil and Mexico , and Amazon in India , for example.
