The documents, all dated , include a proof copy of the Report of the Board of Advice one page foolscap folio, signed in ink by the State Treasurer, and third-time Premier, James Boucaut, with a few minor corrections in pencil by Captain Frederick Howard, Chairman of the Board , a four-page draft report on Largs Bay - Semaphore Jetty Beach Boats with a cover note initialled by Boucaut and a two-page draft 'Report on probable effect of sea outlet for sewerage [sic] of Adelaide' by Howard.

Public Meeting at Brighton. The second volume contains twelve Parliamentary Papers, five of them duplicates of those in the first volume in all, pages plus 2 maps and a plan, but lacking the three plans from one duplicated paper, 'Ocean Steamer Accommodation' [SAPP of ]; 3 pages plus an additional leaf, printed later and not present in the first volume. The most substantial paper is 'Report of the Select Committee.
Most of the maps and charts are detached, and some have a few tears; there is sporadic foxing to the printed material, but overall the condition is excellent. In 30 years, I have seen only one other copy of this issue and that was in the Weimar Archive. The eight months from February to October of were a time of great turmoil. Fritzsch was approaching bankruptcy and Nietzsche had to deal not only with the projected third essay in his series, but also with the fate of the three books he had already published: Fritzsch owned all of the copies. The problems began in earnest when Fritzsch printed the long-anticipated second edition of The Birth of Tragedy.
The first edition had not been out a year before Fritzsch suggested that revisions should be started so that a new printing could begin in the first months of He edited and authorized the second edition during a visit to his publisher's office in Leipzig in late December of However, by March of there was still no second edition and Nietzsche wrote to Rohde that some problem with the printer was "not yet settled, therefore a long delay over the second edition.
Finally, in March of , the printing of the second edition of The Birth of Tragedy was completed, incorporating Nietzsche's corrections. The modifications were primarily cosmetic-the most substantive change being that these minor modifications added one page to the length of the book which now numbered rather than the pages of the first edition. Once again, Fritzsch ordered an odd press run-receiving copies of the book from the printer, C.
It is unlikely that the books were bound at this time, but if they were, it is clear that no copies were actually sold. Fritzsch claimed that the volume would not be ready for release until the spring of Nietzsche, in an attempt to collect his honorarium, apparently accused his publisher of selling copies of the second edition. Fritzsch vehemently denied this and wrote back angrily challenging him to "question both the printer and the bookbinder to find out if I have already sold any copies of the second printing. Somewhat rubbed at the extremities, light browning and some foxing throughout, but overall very good. Extremely interesting portion of a singularly uncommon work, half of the first volume - more accurately described as the first series - constituting Colenso's correspondence with Bartle Frere, and relevant extracts from the Blue Books in the period before the Battle of Isandlhwana.
This publication constituted a key element in Bishop Colenso's campaign to challenge what he saw as the misrepresentation of Zulu motivations; "Colenso's understanding of the Zulu kingdom was qualitatively different from that expressed in the official pronouncements of the Anglo-Zulu War. With the support of the Aborigines' Protection Society, and through the medium of his own printing-press at Bishopstowe, letters to the London papers, and APS pamphlets, Colenso took issue with Frere's account of Zulu history, which had depicted Cetshwayo's rule as a reversion to the Shakan model, and as a reaction to the mildness of Mpande's reign … [arguing that] Frere had been 'unceasing in his efforts to blacken Cetshwayo's character … in the eyes of Englishmen, who would never have endured … that such things should have been done in their name in these parts, if they had not been led to suppose that the Zulu king really was the loathsome monster that Sir B.
Frere has persistently represented him to be'" Hamilton, Terrific Majesty: Colenso's assistant and printer at Bishopstowe, Magema Fuze, is an important historical figure in his own right.
