As a young wife; when she had just become a mother, when her life seemed to be just begun, and when the years seemed so bright before her—then, by a strange and terrible fate, death came to her. And when my heart's dearest died, the light went from my life forever. In the immediate aftermath of Roosevelt's death, her widowed husband turned the care of their newborn daughter, Alice Lee Roosevelt, over to her aunt Anna "Bamie" Roosevelt , the older sister of Theodore Roosevelt, because it was already clear to Roosevelt that his sister would be a spinster. He tore pages from this diary about his wife, and burned almost all of the letters they had written to each other over the years.

Roosevelt was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn , New York , next to her mother-in-law Mittie, who had died just hours before her. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Old Sarum was an Iron Age hill fort, and the location of the first settlement in Salisbury. A castle and cathedral were both originally built on the site, but in the cathedral was demolished and moved 2 miles south to its current location in Salisbury.

There are clear views of the new cathedral from the summit of Old Sarum. It is a fascinating old site, with crumbling walls and spec. There has been a castle at this site since , but the red sandstone structure standing there today was not built until It currently houses Inverness Sheriff Court. A statue of Jacobite heroine Flora MacDonald and her dog erected in stands at the front of the castle. I was fortunate enough to visit the grounds, and stay in a bed and breakfast just up the h.

The castle is the seat of the Duke of Argyll, who has been the chief of the Clan Campbell since the 17th century. It has numerous interesting architectural features. It is believed to be haunted by a harpist who was hanged in , and whose music can sometimes be heard throughout the halls by visitors. The castle was recently utilitzed in an episode of Downton Abbey.

You could spend weeks learning about this castle's fascinating history and still not scratch the surface. It's well worth a visit - an absolute must-see if you're ever in Edinburgh. Another image from the shoot is in the UCLA archive. That image is available from Getty [26] where it is captioned "Astronaut Anna L. Fisher smiling, wearing space suit" and it is dated June 1, This date too is likely incorrect.

The image features the couple in the foreground and the space shuttle in the background. It was part of the Sygma agency's collection and is now available for license from Corbis. This is a month after Bill Fisher was accepted into the astronaut program. Bryson followed Dr Fisher working as an ER Dr in hospital, getting measured up for her suit then wearing the whole suit including the iconic photo. The photo became massively popular on the internet after it was cross-posted from Blogger to Tumblr on June 19, by Calvin [31] of Calvin's Cave of Cool.

Calvin's original post has been deleted and it is not known where he got it from, but fellow Blogger user—Thomas Haller Buchanan—also posted the photo to Blogger on April 16, [32] three months before Calvin did. This is the earliest known posting of the image.

Buchanan, as do many subsequent commenters, claim [33] that the image was in or alternately on the cover of the May issue of Life Magazine. This was not the case. Scott Bryson has speculated elsewhere [35] that the original negative may have been lost by Sygma or lost when "near riots broke out in the Paris office".

Sygma has been sued by photographers in the past for losing images.
