An interesting supposition to the age old story of humans versus Aliens putting humans as the primitive ones who are far above the local aliens in physical.

For new readers the concept of buying 54 issues of comics can seem overwhelming. Luckily, within the next year all of Saga will be collected in much more manageable and affordable trade paperbacks and hardcovers. Each trade paperback is composed of six issues, meaning there will be a total of nine available by this fall when the most recent one is released. The hardcovers contain 18 issues each, which means when the third is released in time for Christmas that everything can be read in three volumes that also looks great on a bookshelf. More importantly, the events of Saga 54 provide a great breaking point in the series.

Without giving too much away, they signal a thematic and temporal stopping point, one that is likely to either shift the perspective of the series in a radical way or set it up for an endgame. No matter what happens next, the first 54 issues come together to make for a compelling read all on their own with much of what happens in the most recent issues reflecting themes and characters arcs from the very beginning. To place the series in terms of another popular sci-fi franchise, catching up now would be like watching A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back , before Return of the Jedi is released.

The shine can come off a lot of comics series over the course of a few years, much less 54 entire issues. Many Image Comics series have run down their premise after an initial arc and then insisted on pushing forward to ever diminishing returns and readers. We are here to assure you that is not the case with Saga. When the series first began, Vaughan stated that he intended for it to run longer than either of his most popular creator-owned endeavors to date, Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina. These series ran for 60 and 50 issues, respectively, and filled every single one of them with significant new plots, characters arcs, and twists.

He is a writer that plans for the long game and Saga has only reaffirmed this ability. As the series has grown and the cast has evolved, it is clearly following a plan.

Saga of Pliocene Exile

The events of Saga 54 re-establish this in an especially clear fashion as multiple bits of foreshadowing and key themes from the very first story arc are fulfilled. Staples was made a star upon the publication of Saga 1, and for very good reason. No other storyteller in comics had an imagination, style, or approach quite like hers.

The work has become more fluid and use of watercolor-like fills even richer.

Saga and Ditte - April 12th 2018 Saga gets and gives some TLC

It is an impressive evolution worth experiencing no matter how much of Saga you might have already read. Here are the books in order: The Fringe Worlds 2. The War of Pawns 4.

The Tactics of Revenge 5. The legend of Earth 6. The Apex Predator I rate this book a 4. It is better than the last book and that hooked me in the story and I could not stop reading it. Now the next story has been set into motion at the end of this book I cannot wait for the next one to be released. If you want to pick a fight you don't start by attacking an pound gorilla! I have not done these books justice in the reviews department.

Then, again, I skipped a review of book 5. Adam Cain has got to be the luckiest guy in the universe. It is really great to be reading a series of sci-fi books where Humans are the toughest dudes around and other aliens know that tangling with us is going to ruin their day.

But you know that none of these races are going to just stay put. They all have visions of grandeur and think they are the greatest there ever was or will be. The Kracori have even tried to attack Earth, which Adam Cain managed to stop but the Earth and Humanity have about had it with being attacked. He has a set of coordinates, but they came from a suspicious source and have to be confirmed. He is a very resourceful guy and will certainly get the job done, but he could be putting himself at risk because if this location is really where the Kracori live, he might not make it back to confirm anything!

In the meantime, while Adam and Sherri are cruising back to Earth, they run across some unmistakable engine signatures of the Kracori. They follow this trail and find that a huge armada of Kracori are on their way to Earth to eliminate once and for all the dreaded Humans. If he can defend Earth once more, he'll probably have to go rescue his friend Riyad and he might, just might run into his mortal enemy, Nigel McCarthy!

Now Is the Perfect Time to Catch Up on 'Saga'

This was a really good book. Hard to put down. Everything fits together very well. You follow several different story lines but they all seems very logical and make consistent parts of the book. There were a lot of small two- and three-letter words missing. I think the writer was thinking faster than he was writing and some of these little words get missed.

Still, this is one of the best sci-fi series I've read and I look forward to reading the next book. See all reviews. Most recent customer reviews. Published 7 months ago. Published 9 months ago.
