When a conversation veers off-topic it is like a derailed train. The book, suited to children aged 5 , includes attractive colour photos of trains, blank worksheets and colouring pages. Tomas loves trains, trampolines and his dog Flynn.

In this one there are no funerals or memorials, and no one gets taken to Emergency in an EMS truck. Did he already say that? In this one the last woman he makes love with is someone he was engaged to almost fifty years ago. In this one, after not being in touch with her for almost forty years and not even realizing she lives in the city and has for about twenty years, he bumps into her in front of a Rembrandt self-portrait in a Dutch gallery at the Metropolitan Museum. In this one they have dinner the following night, and after dinner she invites him to her apartment for a drink.

In this one no one calls a drink like that a nightcap. Act of love. Love act. We could still see each other as friends, but I doubt we would. And help me.

SHORT STORY for CHILDREN in ENGLISH (13 Moral Stories) - BEDTIME STORIES In ENGLISH

Go to bed with you. That could affect my performance, I hate calling it, but you know what I mean. In this one the only time they kissed that night before they were in the bedroom was when they met in front of the restaurant, and that was on the cheek. Would you like another drink before we go to the bedroom?

May I use the towel in the bathroom? And do you have a spare toothbrush? The nature of his being a relatively minor character has more to do with when he entered the novel. The character is half white, half Cheyenne.

What does he mean by that? That aspect of the character is largely based on my own experience, and I can only speak for myself, but being half of one thing and half of another, when it comes to people and their histories, their stories, culture, heritage, language, especially for someone whose two histories seem set against each other—as with Native people and white people, for example—makes for an internal conflict, which I felt from a very early age.

The too much and not enough whiteness has to do with being half white, but not having grown up with any particular culture of whiteness. Plus a whole bunch of other fractions involving other European nations. And being only half Native, and not necessarily looking the part, is difficult. Some of the other chapters in the novel are narrated in the first person, some in the third person, but this is the only one told in the second person. What made you choose that voice for this character? I played around a lot with P. Tried different P. Tedious work, but I wanted to be sure that the story felt—to me, anyway—like it was coming from the right place.

Was told in the right way. This chapter first came out in third person, then first, then finally, when I tried it in the second person, something clicked.
