This year I bought another for a younger niece. I flipped through it just now before wrapping it, and I literally wept looking at the beautiful pictures and reading the stories. This is a perfect gift for any girl or woman you want to encourage or inspire. I hope it will help my niece to know she is strong and beautiful and perfect just the way she is.
I already had a copy of this book that I picked up many years ago at the Smithsonian when all of these photos were on glorious display. Recently bought a copy for our school's female PE teacher who had never seen the book before.

One person found this helpful. The book I received was an old library book. My only complaint is I wish I knew this because it has a bunch of old library stickers on it! Book is in great condition other than that. What else can I say to fill up my required words! Have a great day! Exactly what I thought it was. Great for my project. I first bought this book for a niece when it first came out about 10 years ago. This year I bought another for a younger niece. I flipped through it just now before wrapping it, and I literally wept looking at the beautiful pictures and reading the stories. This is a perfect gift for any girl or woman you want to encourage or inspire. I hope it will help my niece to know she is strong and beautiful and perfect just the way she is. Recently bought a copy for our school's female PE teacher who had never seen the book before. One person found this helpful. The book I received was an old library book. We did not abuse this book in any way, pages simply started falling out of it.
It was poorly made. Amazon has refused to replace it since it purchased it over 30 days ago.

Apparently, they do not stand behind faulty merchandise they sell. I recommend that you do not purchase this, simply because it's poorly constructed. Or, buy it from a different retailer who will replace it if your copy starts to self destruct as mine did. This is a fabulous book for girls -- I have started getting it as a Bat Mitzvah present for nieces etc. But it was also fascinating for myself as an adult to read through it. The essays by women athletes are also quite varied, offbeat and honest -- much more interesting than the typical magazine interview with star athletes.
