If I am to be honest, the "shy" label gifted to me as a very young child created a mess in my brain that I am still cleaning up. It's taken up a LOT of space in my life. That's the real story. It's equally hard to sift through our past and open up old crusty wounds. I can only tell you that the process a person must go through to heal and grow, is worth the discomfort. The effort brings about such tremendous rewards. I've come a long way. I am proof that it can be done. My earliest memories are of people being fixated on my shyness, pushing, prodding and insisting that I speak up.

I was introduced in an apologetic manner: I became fixated on it and felt defective. I was embarrassed by my inability to join in with all the other kids and just be normal. I was sad that I was embarrassing my parents and "making their lives hard". I know they were worried and wanted what they thought was best for me, based on professional advice give to them.
