It's kind of sad, really, because the premise of this book is kind of interesting. Too bad it was written so poorly. The story is about Mr. Brooks and his whores. He makes Tony Stark look poor.

Because sure, not everyone has a price. For such a short story, there's quite a bit of backstory about Mr. Apparently, he made his trillions by creating a cure for baldness. Oh, and he also made a cure for small cawks. Like you take this pill, and you get to have a ten-inch tool. For reals. So of course he made trillions of dollars. Oh yeah, and he also has the cure for every sickness known to man. So, he's like immortal, or something. Brooks is just the ultimate fantasy man. He's the guy that every man wishes he could be. Okay, great, but why is this story so bad then?

And there were extra words that clearly didn't belong.

Why everyone should read Geraldine Brooks

See what that I mean? And this 'book' is actually published. All that being said, I think this story would make a great novel. It really is the perfect fantasy. Well, for men, anyway. And I guess women wouldn't mind reading about getting paid millions of dollars for one night of sex. Twenty years on, this collection of interviews and features remains one of the best dissections of the contradictions, hypocrisies and joys women experience in Islamic countries.

It is grand, intense, romantic; all in all a thoroughly enjoyable page-turner for book lovers. March makes you feel like you are roaming untamed America, alongside a main character so gentle and stoic he outdoes even his lovable daughters in charm. But the story that unfolds is much more than the expected tale; Caleb enters a world of Latin lessons and white privilege, while Bertha becomes obsessed with the culture Caleb leaves behind.

It is a beautifully written exploration of religion and spirituality, culture and ethnicity.

YOUR STORIES

Swapping stories with people in the Middle East, the US and Europe for years painted a picture of the wider world for Brooks, who would go on to be a foreign correspondent later in life. In adulthood, she decided to track each of her pen pals down; the resulting interactions — with people who have lived through mental illness, political aggression and war — forcing Brooks to confront the dissonance between her exotic childhood imaginings and what she sees as an adult.

Here are five to get you started on a Brooks bender: 1 Nine Parts of Desire: the Hidden World of Islamic Women , revised While working as a foreign correspondent in the Middle East, white female Brooks had a hard time doing her job; shunned by Muslim men for interviews, refused access to politicians and denied opportunities that were offered readily to male colleagues.
