Granted it was just the head and neck, but I barely have any drawling talent. Very detailed step-by-step pictures from start to finish Looking forward to drawling the complete body. Buy good pencils, like Sandra recommends. Got this for an 11 year old's birthday.
My 10 year old who gave it as a gift now wants one. It breaks the drawings down into manageable parts. The birthday girl already had a pretty good dragon drawn by the next day using the book's design. It offers multiple claw shapes, wings, heads, and tails, so you can mix and match. Great for beginners and up and has includes more than dragons. I will use this book many many times and share it with my fellow artists. This is a great book on drawing dragons.

If you're looking for painting or coloring tips, I would supplement this with another book. But at the price Amazon is selling it at, it's a great bargain! I cannot think of a book that could be more thorough for an introduction to drawing this mythical creature. Staple firstly introduces some pencil techniques then breaks the dragon form down into basic components: She then shows the dragon in varying genders, ages, and poses. Most of the book is in black-and-white, as it's a basic pencil drawing book, but there are 16 pages in color in the center of the book of dragons in several colors and poses to demonstrate where you can further take your artwork.

This is not for the advanced artist who is looking to further their dragon fantasy drawing skills, but for someone who needs a good solid foundation from which to develop their own unique creations. She makes it look easy. I'm glad I bought it.

I bought this for woodburning. Almost, but not quite.
Most of the figures are much smaller than I thought, and it is really aimed at the colored pencil artist. If you are buying this because your media is colored pencils, pretty much right on. Any other medium, you might want to look elsewhere. Also, the book is older, over ten years now.
Many chapters in this book. Each one stresses a particular skill that you use on the features face, claws, wings, etc.

There a many different types of dragons discussed, fat ones, lean ones, babies, etc. Features on technique as in shading. Book is pages. Mine is in paperback and used, but it is in excellent condition, just like new. This book is very thorough on how to draw dragons.
It starts you out with basic steps that give you a rough shape to start with, and gradually builds the dragon from there. It also gives detail on drawing dragon body parts, so nothing is left out. Although there are some color pictures in the middle part of the book, it's mainly about making pencil sketches. But to draw and paint dragons, you HAVE TO draw them in pencil first, unless you're a pro with years experience. I had no previous experience drawing or painting dragons, so this was exactly what I needed to get started.
I have experience painting acrylics, but not much in pencil. My first dragon sketch, which I finished today, kicks some butt! If you could see it, you'd know it testifies to the value of the book!
