Mr Benham dropped out of high school aged 15 and joined a circus, it was reported. It is not the first time emergency services have been called out to a 'death swing' accident at the notorious location. At the time, New South Wales Police Inspector Peter Scheinflug condemned the behaviour, saying it not only put the lives of those swinging at risk, but also the lives of rescue personnel.
An old image shows a person launching themselves from Hanging Rock on the 'death swing'. An internet search for the swinging craze and the location results in numerous videos, both third person and point-of-view, of daredevils taking on the swing. The hair-raising footage shows people jumping off a cliff more than metres high, before their rope sends them into a pendulum-motion swing. The man was brought to an anchor point on the cliff face where attempts were made to stabilise him before he died.

A point-of-view image shows the perspective jumpers gain when they leap off Hanging Rock on the 'death swing'. A New South Wales police spokeswoman told the Daily Mail the man had not been formally identified yet, and next-of-kin had not been notified.
