To be honest, the most interesting character was Nick Diamond Although he's around the age of , and can think on the spot well, I'd have to go for the mastermind behind getting the box of Maltesers, the Fat Man. Not only is he so powerful that when he was given a parking fine, the police found the body of the traffic warden embedded in concrete, but he is diabolical enough to spoilers, by the way , find Nick Diamond, trap him in a bathtub filled with quick-dry cement, and throw him into a river just to get him out of his way. He is down to business, downright serious, and a force to be reckoned with.

But when it came to finding some sort of comic relief, I doubt I could have picked a better book. With a simplistic writing style, ridiculous plot, incredible characters and the odd play on words every now and again, I wouldn't call it a piece of literary genius, but it wasn't written for that. Even if this book provides you with only a few hours' worth of comic relief, it is exactly that and you will finish it undoubtedly more relaxed and happy Yes, I did read this book when I was 10 years old. Even if this book provides you with only a few hours' worth of comic relief, it is exactly that and you will finish it undoubtedly more relaxed and happy than when you started.

Is it a book for kids? You know what, it probably is. But Ratatouille and Monsters Inc were films for kids, and I will continue to treasure these films for the rest of my life. So if you are looking for a work to brood over and discuss, don't go near 'The Falcon's Malteser'. But if you are looking for an immediate burst of insane comic relief, I can think of few better books to recommend. Mar 13, Laalaai Tausa added it. This book is full of humor as well as action. I would recommend this to readers of all ages very enjoyable to read. The Falcon's malteser keeps you craving for more.

Apr 21, Lillian Bittle rated it it was amazing Shelves: Out of all the Diamond Brother Mysteries that I have read so far, this one was by far my favorite. The humor in here is well balanced with the seriousness of the situation that, mostly Tim, find themselves in. Feb 26, 17leveniperez added it. Imagine you were a detective just in your office, and just waiting for a case to be solved. Then a dwarf comes in your room and gives you five hundred dollars to look out for a package. The genre of this book is mystery. My overall opinion is that this book was great and I loved it.

The setting of this book is in London, there is no time period in this book. Its relevance to the story is that one of the most dangerous criminals is in London and is trying to kill Tim and Nick Diamond. This book is Imagine you were a detective just in your office, and just waiting for a case to be solved.

This book is about how a guy named Johnny Naples who barges into the detectives office while looking like he's being followed. Then Johnny gives the detectives five hundred dollars and an envelope to look out after. Then he leaves in a hurry. Then the next day Johnny is found dead and all the criminals in London want it.

The conflict of this book is person vs. A few examples are " 'My number,' he went on. I can wait all of forty-eight hours. But if I haven't heard from you in two days, I think you may wake up to find that something very unpleasant has happened to you. He was holding a gun. Lenny was blown off his feet. His gun glittered to the ground. I was left holding a diamond the size of a peanut" The theme of this book is that you should watch who you are with.

The title relates to the book because the book is about the a box of Maltesers and the title is the falcon's malteser, "I doubt if you can fit five million dollars worth inside. I thought the ending of the book was really good when Nick finds a diamond, " The last of the chocolate had crumbled away. I was left holding a diamond the diamond size of a peanut" My favorite part of this book is when the police come to rescue Nick. Then a voice boomed out, amplified by a bullhorn. Stay where you are. I recommend this book to people who like detective books.

I would have watched the package until the dwarf came back. Jul 26, Adama rated it it was amazing. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Jul 24, Anthony rated it really liked it. He leaves them with a small package which could lead to three and a half million pounds and the end of their money problems, trouble is every big time crook in London is after it too. I am a big fan of Raymond Chandler and Dashiel Hammett and I loved the comical take on the wise cracking hardboiled dialogue of the above authors.

My initial fears that the story would be little more than an opportunity to play this joke out were soon proved unfounded. I would say that as an adult I found some of the action bordered on the incredulous and the ending was a little convenient but this could not detract from the overall fun and exhilaration of the plot. The two characters Tim and Nick Diamond are an interesting portray.

Both are a bit exaggerated Tim is way toooo simple, while Nick Simple is way tooo clever. Nevertheless it works well in the stories they will live together more or less together. The plot is clever and it isn't easy to solve till the end. The pace is also fast and not boring. The plot involves the start up of the Diamond detective agents which is probably a disaster in se, having Tim as the detective and a 13 year-old brother The two characters Tim and Nick Diamond are an interesting portray.

The plot involves the start up of the Diamond detective agents which is probably a disaster in se, having Tim as the detective and a 13 year-old brother Nick depending on him. Turns out quite differently in reality. A book of Maltesers chocolate balls is handed in custody to Tim. They contain the key to 3. They find themselves the targets of many of a gangster in London in search for the box.

It is not clear, however, how the chocolate works as key to anything. Among a lot of double-crossing and deceit typical of any grown-up spy book, the key to open the treasure is found in the bar code of the box, as well as by a number of deductions, Nick figures out the location. Only to find it is empty Well, you need to read to know.

Oct 26, Mahmoud Al Masri rated it it was amazing. This mystery book became one of my favorite books once I read the first chapter. It grabbed my attention and pushed me to read more and more to find out what will happen to Herbert and his brother. When Nick offers to tell Snape everything the Diamonds know in exchange for what the police know, Snape begins to tell his story.

The Falcon that Naples mentioned with his dying breath is the alias of the late Henry von Falkenberg, an English-German international criminal who had been living in La Paz , Bolivia , when the police last heard of him.

The Falcon's Malteser (Diamond Brothers, #1) by Anthony Horowitz

Snape describes him as a great criminal, being involved in all sorts of crimes all over the world Snape's various locations include Russia, Canada, Holland and England. The Falcon would only deal in one currency — uncut diamonds. Snape and the police suspect that the Falcon had stashes of uncut diamonds in many cities around the world, including London, which was the base of his operations. When the brothers inquire into how Johnny Naples fits into all of this, Snape tells them that he was a quack doctor living in La Paz, with a run-down practice in the city's backstreets.

However, with the Falcon, his luck changed. A month earlier, as he crossed the road to catch a plane to London from El Alto Airport , the Falcon was mown down by a bus, and Johnny Naples was the doctor who rode back to the hospital with him, in the back of an ambulance. With this knowledge, Naples quit his job in Bolivia soon after the Falcon's death, and caught a flight to England. The police picked him up in passport control at Heathrow , before losing him for a short while, until they found him at the Hotel Splendide in Portobello Road.

The police were watching Naples, because of various criminals that, they suspected, would also be interested in the diamonds, and would be tailing him so they could inquire about the diamonds. Snape then begins to write up, on a blackboard, the number of people who might have had an interest in the diamonds:.

Snape then tells Herbert he is a suspect, mainly because they were found with Naples dying, in his hotel room, just moments after a gunshot rang out — and Herbert was holding the gun that had killed the dwarf. The Chief Inspector then demands why Naples came to the Simples in the first place. Nick tells him that he'd been looking for protection of some sort. In the end, Snape lets them go, but with a caution, saying he doesn't believe them and neither will anybody else. They head over to a fast food restaurant called Grannys, as a publicity stunt only Grannies are hired, where they chew the case over.

Herbert suggests sending Nick to Australia or to Auntie Maurie in Slough, who has a semi-detached house, and a semi-detached hip, and often forces Nick to give her round the clock nursing. However Nick says he would feel safer with Herbert, as the Fat Man could kidnap him. They then decide to find out where Johnny went. After finding a matchbox from a nightclub called The Casablanca Club a nod toward another one of Humphrey Bogart's movies , they decide to pay the club a visit.

At home they find the Club is open, but their cleaning lady Betty Charlady says no good will come of it. Quickly, they find that Naples must have been a regular there — a waiter mistakes Nick for him, and offers him a bottle of free champagne, and a singer called Lauren Bacardi a take-off of film noir star and Bogart's wife Lauren Bacall asks of Johnny's well-being. However, just moments after the brothers feel they are getting somewhere, Bacardi is snatched by two shady figures in a blue van.

Books [ edit ] The series consists of the following books: The Falcon's Malteser A mystery that starts with Tim being hired to protect a box of Maltesers.
