The extent of his influence is even greater than I knew, not just in science fiction but in society, especially space travel. He influenced the thinking and sometimes the career choice of many. He strongly influenced the 60's with Stranger in a Strange Land. I, like many was first introduced to him as a kid with red planet.

Then as a young adult read everything he wrote.

After I got a kindle app on my phone, I re-read many of my favorites. I was astonished to realize how many of my attitudes had been influenced by him. However, at this time in my life I also realized how much more complex he and his ideas were than I originally saw. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The main problem is that it makes me want even more detail of him the man. Really enjoyed immensely reading the perspectives of the many writers and other professionals in this book who give tribute to the memory of Robert Heinlein.

As with so many others I grew up reading his work when I was still quite young nine, possibly eight up until my late teens and early 20s.

He, more than any other individual, helped to make me the person I am, to show me through "actions" not just words a moral, respectful code of behaviour. I unfortunately never had the opportunity to meet him when he lived, but I feel this bok might give one a very accurate picture of the man he was.

Truly an excellent compilation of anecdotes and transcripts, I recommend this work to any other who grew up on his work, but was never privileged to meet him.

This book was one more chance to read something by the Grand Master of scifi. Great stuff by Heinlein, and wonderful tributes to him. I bought it for pleasure, but I'll use it for research. A must for any Heinlein fan. Since I've always loved the writings of Robert Heinlein of course I love it.

Certainly not the place for a first introduction to his writing but more a place to savor the last drops of a bottle of fine wine. Some of the tributes get a bit tiring but the worst RAH would ever write is far better than most people's best. As a life-long reader of Heinlein's work, I was anxious to read the stories that hadn't been collected elsewhere. See all 28 reviews. Most recent customer reviews. Published 1 year ago. Anyway, the personal stories were worth the price of admission in my book. I dont think anything really means more in getting a sense of a person - short of actually talking to them - than hearing a bunch of rambling goodbyes from people who loved the decedent.

All in all this is a must read for fans of RAH - you may just want to save it for last. View all 4 comments. His life's work and ambition can't be complete without a personal visit, which circumstances still make all but impossible. This short story shows him applying the indomitable effort required to open moon travel generally applied to the end of his personal ambition. Nov 21, Durval Menezes rated it liked it. Basically a collection of short texts, many of them non-fiction -- most are interesting, but if you are after Heinlein's wondrous tales, you might want to pass.
