This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Legacy of the Dragon by J. I enjoyed both but Noble was better. Now this third book really vaults J. Gregory Smith into the professional arena. Dragon is a page turner than truly establishes Greg as a contender! Paul Chang, the huge Chinese American detective is back but in the private sector.
He and his quirky partner Nelson are running a private detective business that is floundering. Greg did a masterful job in truly giving Paul Chang full, three dimensional characterization.
Legacy of the Dragon
The back story is well done and having read Final Price, some pieces that were missing are now put into play. The twin prongs of a diabolically clever plot intermesh enough to provide questions but not confusion. The characters, overall, are well written and colorful. Action in a Smith novel is a given and is in abundance here. I highly recommend this book! I recently had the chance to preview J. This is the first time I have read Mr. Smith's work and I found it impressive. I had the strong sense that one does not need to have read the first novel to fully enjoy this work, I believe it stands on its own very nicely.

Their problems stem primarily from their former employer Col Byrd who runs the Delaware State Police and blames them for his failed run for Governor and vicious Asian gangs who want revenge on Paul for his past actions against them. The story never stalls and is quite the page turner. Paul is a martial arts master whose skills become even more deadly as he unleashes the "dragon" which is an inner demon that gives the concept of anger management a whole new dimension. Please try again later. It was a very decent murder mystery. I was honestly surprised by some of the ways the story unfolded and was appropriately sad towards the end of the book. However, there a pretty good balance of humor and seriousness. I got the audio book version to listen to on a long car trip and it was soooo worth it. Todd Haberkorn was fantastic with the narration. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Paul Chang is a great character. This novel moved well and made me want to get back to the story every chance I could. I will gladly read the rest of the series. This book is enjoyable enough. The author provides us several philosophical options, mostly concerning free will and control over one's actions when choosing to respond to the questions of right or wrong.
Perhaps to the questions of right versus might. I hope that future stories will tighten up on plot and have increased character development, as I thought well of these characters. Asaian detective with an inner force, castout from NY works in sleepy Delaware. A string of seemingly un-related murderer occurs. Once a high profile victim turns up the pressure is on.
