The Christmas Present

The Christmas Present is not a traditional Christmas story, but it is a rather peculiar and amusing one about a wonderful gift that didn't cost a thing. The story first.

And that was good. Delia stopped crying and she washed her face. She stood by the window, and looked out at a grey cat on a grey wall in the grey road. Tomorrow was Christmas Day, and she had only one dollar and eighty-seven cents to buy Jim a Christmas present.

She wanted very much to buy him something really fine, something to show how much she loved him. Suddenly, Delia turned round and ran over to look in the glass on the wall. Her eyes were bright.

Now, the James Dillingham Youngs had two very special things. It once belonged to his father, and, before that, to his grandfather. Quickly, Delia let down her beautiful, long hair. It fell down her back, and it was almost like a coat around her. Then she put her hair up again, quickly. For a second or two she stood still, and cried a little. Then she put on her old brown coat, and her old brown hat, turned, and left the room. Page 1 of 1 Start Over Page 1 of 1.

Christmas Presents

This one is no exception. Where is Baby's Christmas Present is full of bright colors to keep his attention all the way through from beginning to the end. Will purchase more Karen Katz Where is Baby's books until we have the full collection. I like the large, sturdy flaps and bright colors in this series, and it's a great length for a baby who's just learning to sit still and turn the pages.

Some of the reveals are a little odd like why are there stockings under Baby's pillow? This ended up working nicely for us, since we finished the book each time talking about what we thought might be in the present. My toddler had some amusing ideas, but she most often said, "Christmas books! One person found this helpful. Got this for my 18 month old around Christmas time because she loves all the Karen Katz books and her signature baby drawings. She really loves answering all the questions such as "Is it in the closet?

It's such an engaging book surrounding the Christmas theme and I like that all the Christmas objects are things we have in our house at that time, like candy canes, stockings, wrapping paper, cookie dough, and gingerbread houses, so it's relateable to her. The illustrations are very colorful also.

The only downside is that the flaps come off easily - they seem cheaply glued on and so they aren't durable. You'll likely have to tape them back on. But overall, this is a great book and we like it even when it's not Christmas time! We have the big yellow "Peekaboo" boardbook where the flaps are pretty durable and are, essentially, just a continuation of the page.

I ordered this book, not really hoping for the same, but I suppose just assuming it would be. The book is SUPER cute, Baby looks all over the house for their present and can't find it, last page baby looks under the tree. However, the flaps seem to be more of a cardstock than a cardboard like the book is, and they're glued to the page rather than part of it. I have a 1 year old, we'll be opening it during December as part of our "25 books of Christmas" so I'm not sure just yet how it will hold up to her but, I do know she gets a little "excited" about the flaps in the other book.

Also, some open up, some pull down, some sideways. I ordered close to Xmas due to another supplier letting me down due to website issues, everything arrived in time. Celebrated crooner Andy Williams said it, and he was right, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.
