We are thinking of coming to Savannah in July but I am worried that it will be too hot to truely enjoy the city during the day. This can mean a heat index of or more. That's when it becomes uncomfortable!! You can still enjoy a trip around town on an air conditioned car or tour bus. It's also a nice city to ride around in. Drive out to the beach, go out on the pier, check out Fort Pulaski and don't forget a ride out to Bonaventure Cemetery.

It will give you a fairly good idea of what Mother Nature plans to do. You might luck up and hit a patch of cooler weather.

Plan to do things as early in the morning as possible. My husband and I really enjoyed Savannah in the latter part of April.

I've never been during the summer, but towns like Savannah and Charleston are not at the top of my list that time of year. If you think you could wait, head to Savannah in the fall or spring. If you won't be bothered by the heat and stifling humidity , head on down in July.

Downtown is full of shade trees and squares to rest in. It is hot though. We like it, we walk around regularly in the summer. A lot of folks are active very early, and rest at the hotel as the temp. Then they come out for the nightlife. Sort of a siesta, see? It works pretty well.

I do that when I visit Charleston in the summertime-- the heat can wear you out otherwise, but it really isn't too bad in the mornings and evenings. I actually carry a bottle of frozen water with me wherever I go, which means I will gradually drink a big bottle of ice-cold water throughout the day. Just got back from Savannah this week. It was hot, but not unbearable for someone from the South. Grab a daquiri at Wet Willy's and you'll be fine!
