What a surprising little book! I picked this up in a newsagents one day when on the way to the coffee shop with nothing to read with my coffee. An obscure author to me, anyway , I didn't expect to finish it. But it turned out to be a real page turner and a true cozy read. It is a book very easy to read, captivating at times especially at the beginning as the events happen in a period so different from today. I enjoyed this book as it took me on journey through social change from the 20's onward. The narrative followed the main character from babyhood to great-grandmother and she was an endearing, if stubborn woman battling against the odds.

I preferred the first half of this book as I enjoy historical fiction but was surprised by how much I cared and wanted to follow this story through, I'm surprised, I really truly am.

But this book was more than just incredible or spectacular, in my opinion. It is a story of survival, of pain, of joy and incredible strength found in soft feminine nature.

Paisley Park Pictures Inside Prince's House

It is about beauty that springs from the ashes. It is a story of a family that is all but normal - and yet has so much to offer.

The House by Princes Park by Maureen Lee

It has a lot of love, a lot of warmth, a lot of coziness, it is a place of acceptance and tolerance, a place where you will never be judged. It is I'm surprised, I really truly am. It is a true home and not just a house. The main character, Ruby, left me in awe. Despite being so unfortunate and having so little, she firmy refused to be a victim.

In her, you see a fighter that is doing all she can for those she loves and never complains. Despite all her flaws and wrong choices, her qualities are praise-worthy and she is a great role model.
