I collect all versions and copies of this classic, and i purchased this as well. The illustrations are exquisite - very reminiscent of primitive art. To add to the loveliness of this edition, the pages are gilded in gold and includes a lovely silk ribbon for a marker. Of the 20 some copies of have of this book, this by far is one of my favorites!

My family loves A Christmas Carol and the younger boys have enjoyed hearing it read aloud if you want a first-rate read-aloud experience, buy the CDs with Patrick Stewart reading and follow along with the book. The illustrations and beautiful and we enjoyed looking through the book together as we read it.
The whole book is lovely and it sits on our mantle during the holidays.

Also there was a rip on one of the page in the middle of the book and the last few pages in the back were glued incorrectly.

I don't know if the rest of these books are badly bound copies. BUT for the price it should have a better binding process. So, I have returned my copy. I am concerned about buying another, because of the binding, So, that is why I am giving it only two stars. It could have been a wonderful gift to my son, had the pages been better bound and none of the pages ripped. Now I was passing it on to my son to read to his kids. My Favorite Christmas story.
