There was none of that in this book, Valentin is just there and readers are just expected to run with it. Kira is one of the Destined. As to why that is or what that means; your guess is as good as mine.

There's a bit of her family history scattered through the novel but her role in the grand scheme of things isn't evident. I think if the author would have explored this subject a little bit more the book would have been a lot more interesting. Kira's okay as far as characters go aside from being a little too perfect. She's too goody-goody for my liking. I never developed any real connection to her. Same thing with Valentin. All of a sudden he finds himself living a human life, which in my opinion should be a difficult transition but for him it's business as usual.

He almost seamlessly accepts his new role without any growing pains. Here's a guy who starts out as an angel, gets kicked out of heaven to become one of the fallen and then is temporarily turned human. If that doesn't cause someone to be an emotional wreck I don't know what will. There's also a secret society that had the potential to be intriguing if only it had been explored further. Kira's uncle and father are both members as is Valentin. The Lighthouse was founded by a Castelmain ancestor.

The story could have went in so many different directions with this element but instead it was only casually mentioned. How or why this brotherhood now serves Lucifer still eludes me. Kira also discovers that her father owned a secret brownstone. In it she finds bookshelves packed with spells and witchcraft. She brushes it off as being weird but never really investigates any further.

I don't know about you but if I found a cauldron in my parents' basement I would definitely be asking myself some questions! The best part of this book for me was the politics. Kira's campaign for congresswoman, her vote on the issue of Wold War 3 and the inner workings of the White House were interesting. The writing is fluid and there's a logical progression to the plot but the ending felt a tad rushed. Beloved of the Fallen is not a bad book and if you're into politics you might even enjoy it.

Jul 17, David King rated it it was ok. To be honest, "Beloved of the Fallen" isn't a book I would normally read as I try to keep as far away from Paranormal Romance as possible. However, as I won this book in a giveaway I decided to give it a read anyway and see if I could finally find something to really enjoy within this genre. Now that I have finished reading it, I am sorry to say that I was left disappointed and underwhelmed. The story is based around the actions of Valentin, a former angel who was ejected from heaven due to disobeying one of God's decrees. Now working for Satan, he is tasked with steering a young woman named Kira Castlemain towards becoming a member of congress prior to voting in legislation that could lead to a Nuclear War. And so, Kira and Valentin hold the key to either redemption or Armageddon.

Beloved 2

The first comment I need to make is that the book is a really quick read. I couldn't believe how quickly I completed it even when I wasn't that engrossed. I suspect the quick speed is due to the author's lack of exposition in her storytelling, the reader is pretty much given the facts required to move the plot on and nothing more.

Sometimes I quite enjoy that type of thing in a novel, but I don't think it worked that well in this case due to the plot itself being rather weak. The weakest part of the plot in my opinion was around Kira's vote being important in deciding the future of the world.

God's beloved Fallen - Ryan Anderson - Wattpad

It just seemed silly to me as I couldn't understand why her one vote would matter more than anyone else's. Surely, if Satan and his followers wanted to ensure the vote went in their favour they would have been working on other targets as well? The entire thing just felt ridiculous and I just felt sad that the chance to create a good mix of political intrigue and paranormal influence had been missed. The ending wasn't any better either, despite the build up to the crucial vote, it is over in a few pages and suddenly the reader is faced with finales for both characters that just seemed like a rushed afterthought.

It really did feel like Kline had run out of steam and just threw together a positive outcome that lacked any real depth. It quite simply epitomised the entire plot as being one that was lacking in substance and exposition. Sometimes, novels can be saved by interesting and dynamic characters that pull the reader in despite issues with the plot. Unfortunately, this isn't one of those cases as I found both Valentin and Kira to be rather juvenile in how their relationship works and in the decisions they take.

I found it really hard to treat either of them seriously when they seemed to act and rationalise as I imagine a 10 year old child would. Overall, I think that this novel has missed out on the opportunity to develop what was a really intriguing plot line. The entire story is played out in a rather weak and shallow manner by some rather childish characters. In all honesty, unless you are really interested in seeing an attempt at mixing politics and angels then you are probably as well just skipping this book.

The story picked up in the present day Washington D. Lucifer gives Valentin an assignment, as you would guess, with a Destined named Kira Castlemaine. I wished that the author addressed that subplot, because it would have shed more light on his intentions, especially regarding his daughter.

I was also unclear on how and why the Castlemaine ancestors ended up serving Lucifer, but it was clear that Kira had different ideas about the world.

See a Problem?

Whether it was a positive impact or negative impact became the struggle of two opposing forces. This assignment gave Valentin an opportunity to either assist Lucifer in his evil master plan or find a way to gain redemption with his Heavenly Father. The choice lied in how he dealt with Congresswoman Kira Castlemaine, the only remaining descendant of the Destined.

But the ending was rushed and it felt like the author just wanted to get to a positive conclusion. I had a lot of unanswered questions, but overall I appreciated this story because it offered an opportunity for redemption. Yet he flew toward heaven faster than he had ever flown before. He is denied entrance into heaven and must join the ranks of Lucifer and the other fallen until he figures out how to appease his Lord. But, they can be influenced. Her only salvation is her new lover and political consultant, Valentin, who seems to be the only good in her life. This time Valentin is going to get it right. He will guide Kira without getting entangled and falling in love. As they say, history does repeat itself and now it is a race to stop the end of the world.

The whole good versus evil wages war throughout the pages of Beloved of the Fallen. The reader is swept into this battle and we nervously anticipate the climax. Valentin is a complex character who must fight his inner demons to be accepted back into heaven and Kira must learn to stand on her own feet and voice her opinions and not let outside people dictate her life. Together they learn from each other and fulfill what they are truly destined to become.

Savannah Kline's fast-paced first novel deserves a follow up. Disclosure of Material Connection: This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I have one thing to say about the book: It was good and different! I was expecting something like the usual angel books but this one went different. The very first chapter got me really into it, since it started with Valentin's history.

Now that i finished the book, i feel like it was a really good idea this move because even if the story was from Kira's POV, i could understand Valentin. I could see what Kira couldn't, and made me like it even more. I felt like a have secret connection I have one thing to say about the book: I felt like a have secret connection with him: P I also really liked there wasn't like epic battles and etc.

Everything was playing secretly and gave a mysterious touch to the story. Not what the characters wanted but neither the destruction of the world. It was an acceptable ending, of a someone's simple life who can't have everything. You could see and feel Valentin. I could understand the way he thinks, how he feels and i was connected to him more than any other character lately. Kira was a more complicated person but i liked that she wasn't stupid but not the most powerful or cleverest girl in the world. She had her bad and good moments. There was room for improvement though. I had and still have questions about the angels or some secondary characters.

Plus, i felt the first and last scenes like were written in a hurry. Those certain pages gone away so fast, that i couldn't really handle the change of scenes in them. Despite those, i'm happy i choose to read it. You will like it! Jun 25, Z. I had no clue what to expect from this book. It's a debut novel and not very well known. Devi and Oz's relationship grew and you got to meet Camael and learn more about him. In all honesty…I think Camael is my favorite character. Even though he can't feel emotions, I feel like he was so sweet and protective, even though it's his job.

I feel like Devi and Camael started to grow a relationship during the book. Camael started to show signs of his affection and I hope he keeps it up. I think Camael and Devi would be a better couple than Oz and Devi. Just I thought this book was amazing! Sep 05, Kelly rated it did not like it Shelves: I have no clue why I read this book when I thought the first one was so bad. I wonder if this author published this herself because it obviously was not reviewed by an editor.

There were so many, not only grammatical errors lots and lots but also the story it self had inconsistencies. It would go from saying something happened to one of the male characters to calling that male character a she. The way the actual story line developed left so many holes it just was painful Maybe the author th I have no clue why I read this book when I thought the first one was so bad.

Maybe the author thought we were inside her head and could fill in the holes but dang, it was just that bad.

Mar 29, Melanie Cusick-Jones added it. I really liked After Eden, but have struggled with this second installment. The writing just isn't flowing this time and i feel like i'm going through scenes not really getting much understanding of what's happening. Devi is confusing me with odd inconsistencies in what freaks her out about her demon boyf and angel I hate not finishing things, so I'm not going to rate this now. I'll take a break and come back to it again, I really liked After Eden, but have struggled with this second installment. I'll take a break and come back to it again, just in case it's me.

Jun 15, Elizebeth rated it liked it. I was expecting a lot when I first read this and I was a little disapointed. I loved Oz and Devi but I was not impressed with the meaningless some of the conversations. Not a lot of romance between the two if you're looking for that. It does however have information on Devi and why she is important to heaven and hell. Having Camael in the story was a little awkward for the three of them but he does grow and I'm interested in where he goes from there.

I look forward to what's next. Jul 31, Mary Winter rated it really liked it. The book is quite enjoyable and fascinating. It opens to the reader unknown world of already known creatures. Sometimes Devi's behaviour in company of an angel and a demon is weird, but it makes the book real and natural how would each of us treat both of them if we happend to be on her place?

That is very important. The main point, however, is the ending. Mar 24, Kimm rated it it was ok. Ok I gave this one a shot, and though it had some great moments, there was so much weighed it down. It was depressing read, and for me, a true escapist reader, hope is a huge ingredient for me. The choices the main character made seemed quite foolish, and though she obviously means well, she lacked a strength of will that I look for in a protagonist.

She is a bit silly, I hoe she "wises up" in the next novel. May 21, Tricia rated it it was amazing. So picking up the next one in the series. What a great read. Devi may not be a butt kicking heroine, but she does what she can and has a good heart. Feb 16, Judi rated it really liked it. This book picks up the pace and fills in the blanks that linger after book one.

Found myself laughing out loud several times as Devi comes to grips with having her angel around ALL the time. I wish she was a bit stronger and spoke her mind more but I can relate to her doubts and insecurities. Forneous is full of surprises and I'm looking forward to the next book. Dec 25, Andrea Wilmot rated it it was amazing. After reading the first book, After Eden, I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to continue with the series. When Beloved Purgatory came out I decided to give it a shot. Personally, I liked book 2 much more than the first. I felt closer to the characters and enjoyed the story-line more.

After reading Beloved Purgatory I would definitely recommend this series to a friend. Feb 03, Nicole rated it really liked it. I loved this book. I love Devi and Oz together, and it was nice learning more about why Devi has no soul. It was also nice seeing her and her angel interact more. I can't wait to read the next book.
