That statement contains so much hype, Peter Molyneux would blush. Had been curious about this during the early summer months, but didn't see much GESC buzz so I busied myself with other games instead. Might give the demo a whirl. Because those screenshots look merely ok. Pretty sparse looking for Thanks for the heads up. Can't really pass it up at that price. Those arent even as impressive as Witcher 2 screenshots.

Sure, Betrayer does an okay job with trees and grass.

So do plenty of other games. It's easy when trees, grass, evil skeleton, and log palisade make up the vast majority of your assets. I'll cede the representation of wind is well done and that the concept is unique. That's about where my compliments end. The gameplay is repetitive and tedious with regard to both the poorly balanced combat bow is the only weapon worth regularly using, and your tactics will pretty much always be "hide in the bushes, bow headshot, collect arrows, rinse, repeat" and monotonous exploration wow, another palisade wall, how exciting.

The plot is okay, but nothing to write home about. The ghost world concept sounds good on paper, but in practice, it's just a way to gate off content in a way they lets the dev reuse environments. Enemies are near omniscient at times and in general are woefully bland in terms of AI and variety. It's pretty for an indie release, but that's the only categorization in which the graphics are worthy of note. Really, I'd praise the art design before I even mentioned the graphics. Geez you're a douche. The graphics aren't the cat's meow. However I will say this about Betrayal: It's the very first video game to have realistic weapons.

It's a great thing that I just bought stocks in Zanshin's company. Some of the things you say are so batshit zany that I honestly have to wonder if you aren't just running some kind of elaborate long-troll. Why create a carefully-crafted thread on my part? If I wanted to troll, it'd be far easier for me to just go into someone else's thread and accuse them of trolling. Visually the game is a definite cut above the rest. It perfectly imparts the feeling of walking around a colonial frontier, and the amazing graphics play a massive part in that.

Sure, other games look nice outdoors, but not in the way this one does. This one makes you feel like you're in a real-life outdoors.

The gameplay is repetitive and tedious with regard to both the poorly balanced combat bow is the only weapon worth regularly using, and your tactics will pretty much always be "hide in the bushes, bow headshot, collect arrows, rinse, repeat " and monotonous exploration wow, another palisade wall, how exciting.

Is that fact or opinion? Because I didn't use the bow past the tutorial, and I almost never used stealth. Alright, I'll take the bait. Let's look at some foliage screenshots. Betrayer was released in Here's a screenshot from CoD: Ghost, released in Quixel, reasonable resolution screenshot, 4K available here , youtube video here: I would think any GESC veteran would understand that distinction, but given your comments, I evidently shouldn't make that assumption. It's fact if you're wanting to play through the game in any reasonable length of time.

We're talking about a game in which the core premise is to stalk heavily armed and armored supernatural enemies through the woods.

The whole point of the wind mechanic is to mask your movement as you sneak up on them. Are you trying to tell me you threw all that aside, ditched the rapid-fire silent weapon with reusable ammo, and instead would run-and-gun with a muzzle-load musket from ? And all this in what's effectively a colonial survival horror game with highly rationed ammo?

Betrayer is awesome while it’s awesome, but then there’s the rest of it

Haven't played the game yet, but if BFG is using tools within the game, and can make it happen to his satisfaction, the most efficient form of gameplay doesn't automatically equate to the most fun. You've already said the core gameplay is "repetitive and tedious" and the bow is "the only weapon worth regularly using".

Maybe BFG found a way to boost the enjoyment of the game by adding a lil' assbackwardsness to the mix. Fun is what matters. Still not buying the graphics hype tho.

Might look great for an indie fps. Maybe I'll give it a crack sometime after I finish The Witcher 3. I have the first three games and have finished all of them at least once. The difference is as follows: So no, the game is not "visually a definite cut above the rest. I finished the game, found all markers, and completed everything in my log book. In fact their musket implementation was deadly accurate at long range with only a slight delay for bullet impact, so they were like unscoped sniper rifles.

If you want to stay silent, use the crossbow instead. Long range kills were completely viable with one shot and the wind helped mask gunfire at long distances. Even when targets were alerted, you could get off several shots provided you had enough distance, especially if you had guns with faster reloads combined with the right charms.

Additionally, the game imposes no punishment on sprinting with respect to accuracy or stamina. Open Preview See a Problem? Thanks for telling us about the problem.
