Conformed to His Image

God’s purpose in creation and redemption is to have a family of children conformed to the image of his Son. In this lab, Pastor John explains the ways in which we are made like Jesus. How does our being conformed to Christ fit into God’s main purpose in creation and redemption?.

That does not diminish Christ; it exalts him. As we are conformed to him, he is made the standard of all beauty, excellence, and purity. So, the purpose of the universe is to have a vast family of children conformed to Christ, which makes him the center of all things and the meaning of creation. Peace and calm are not the only factors in determining what we should do. Pastor John explains what else should govern our decisions.

Parents, even if your child gives you little reason to hope, the cross gives you hope enough to continue praying for their salvation. This is a compendium of subjects that have often troubled you and it presents answers from the Word of God and not from opinions of man. You will be delighted with the list of subjects that this book covers. Each chapter is presented in a form that invites teaching and quick overview.

It has an appendix on church history that is remarkably complete and free from sectarian opinion. This book will enrich your life beyond your expectations and it is worthy of the fame that it enjoys. This book has replaced it. I have donated it to church libraries, given it to family and friends, recommended it to strangers on the street. I love the way Dr. Boa approaches spiritual truth from many different perspectives.

The "exchanged life" and "Spirit-filled" approaches had previously been most significant to me-but I learned something helpful from every chapter. I especially love his accessible teaching on the "contemplative way. I believe Boa has quoted every writer who ever really blessed my heart: Meyer, Dallas Willard, Richard Foster and a host of others from many different groups. Approaching 80, I've heretofore just stumbled around reading whatever sounded helpful, wasted a lot of time and energy. With my vision fading, my reading time is very precious and this book has enough food to equip me for the rest of my journey.

Conformed to His Image: Biblical and Practical Approaches to Spiritual Formation

My profound thanks to God and to Kenneth Boa. One person found this helpful. I have spent decades savoring classics that speak to individual facets of the walk of faith, but this is the first work I have read that presents a such a circumspective understanding of these elements of spirituality, their inter-relatedness, and the critical importance of balance among them to spiritual health and wholeness.

The way this academic "textbook" manages to convey so beautifully what it means to follow Christ just blows me away! At many points, Boa's prose reads like poetry. Whether a Christ-follower, someone yet to believe, or an academic simply seeking understanding of the Judeo-Christian perspective, I could not recommend this book highly enough! Those familiar with systems thinking will appreciate the depth of praise when I call Kenneth Boa "the Peter Senge" of Christian life and thought!

Lewis and Francis Schaefer sp? It is both Evangelical and Catholic in its material. It's only draw back is that it has so much spiritual meat in it , that it is like taking a drink from a fire hose!

Feb 04, Andy rated it it was amazing Shelves: In His Image has taken different aspects of spiritual formation and grouped them together in facets that show various ways that people can grow to be more like Christ. Boa outlines 12 facets that lead to spiritual formation in the believer.

Going through the book, I responded differently to each facet. Below is a summary of what each facet entails. Relational spirituality focuses on loving God more fully and intimately, loving ourselves correctly and seeing ourselves the way God see us in Christ and loving others the way God has loved us. We grow as we love God, ourselves and others the right way.
