This book is more about Dodie's troubled marriage and her problems dealing with the boss' wife than it is about being an ex-pat living in Thailand. It's entertaining at times, but the parts about her husband's sexual issues are tiresome. Apr 21, Pam rated it really liked it. Very funny and informative book about a lady living in Thailand for her husband's job. I think older women will appreciate the humor more, but I think anyone would get a kick out of it, as well as learn quite a bit about Thailand to boot.

I really like the author, she came across as a lovely, kind and very funny lady, however, as a current expat in Thailand I found it very hard to relate to her sugar coated stories about life in this unfriendly and often dangerous country.

As someone who currently lives in Thailand as an expat, I found myself nodding my head in agreement with many of the author's descriptions of the Thai people and their country. It's fresh and alive, and you feel as if the author is talking to you and only you. As good friends do, she tells you everything, knowing full well that she can trust you and that you will understand, and that you will love her no matter how her story ends. She shares the humor, the anger, the frustration, the disappointment, the health hurdles and the corporate politics involved in her own personal life as well as the sounds, the smells, the language, the culture, and the natural beauty of Thailand.
When I finished reading this book, I felt as if I had been there with her. She's a wonderful story-teller! Get her book, put on your jammies and curl up on the couch for a delightful few hours of laughs.
A really dumb book!! I certainly would not recommend it and won't read anything else by this author. It was a Book Club book and we universally hated it by the whole group!

While Dodie did relate tales of living in Thailand, most of her story was about the trouble he had with her husband and the wife of his boss. It was not at all what I was looking for. See all 24 reviews.
