Even as an eighth grader I'd read some pretty sketchy books. Dec 13, Katie Lowe rated it really liked it. I can get over the crude language because of the very good plot- I'll read other books by this author certainly.

May 31, Joan rated it liked it. I liked how this book went a step past what I thought it would be about. The 16 year old kid gets sent to live with his uncle in Texas I think and starts working with horses. He has a tarnished reputation from his past with his stepfather and other shenanigans, so it's kind of a blessing that he can start over I think anyway. His uncle has his own problems with a divorce and a young son, so I was I thought SE Hinton wrote about gangs, but I've only read the Outsiders, so that might be wrong.

His uncle has his own problems with a divorce and a young son, so I was glad when the book took on a direction toward the kid getting a book published. It was unexpected, because I didn't even realize he had submitted something. That seemed to clear up his image, since the book was about gang life I think. But the book's name alludes to horses, and that part was interesting, even if I didn't understand all the technical horse references; but I had just seen two horse movies and watched the Kentucky Derby, so I tried to follow as best I could.

Apr 07, Olivia Smith rated it really liked it. Her story lines are never complex, but her characters always feel so real. I thought parts of the book were sad, but overall Travis was very funny. I liked how the book had a theme, but at the same time it was just following Travis in his everyday life.

I could have done with out all of the profanity, but it was a good read. Another hit I have read The Outsiders, That was then this is now, Tex, Some of time stories, and Rumble fish and I feel like this is another hit another one of my favorite books.

I do have to admit this was my least favourite S. E Hinton book, but it was still close to absolute perfection. Aug 13, Jill Butler rated it liked it. Insightful for teenagers whose Weltschmerz always differs from previous generations. Empathic portrayal of troubled characters without being preachy. Travis was a really good writer and was waiting for his book to be published when he got in trouble for almost killing his stepfather in a fight.

Travis was ten sent to live with his uncle Ken for a while. The first night at his uncles they went to Dairy Queen and ate and while they were waiting to get their food Travis saw a couple cute girls and asked them for a cigarette and one gave him a dollar Travis does not get along well with his step father and his stepfather hated when Travis wrote. The first night at his uncles they went to Dairy Queen and ate and while they were waiting to get their food Travis saw a couple cute girls and asked them for a cigarette and one gave him a dollar and told him to get his own.

They ate and after his uncle told him that he had to ride horses to be their friends and he told Travis that they worked at a farm just down the road and that he had to go check it out. One day after school Travis went to the farm a woman named Jennifer was there doing horse riding lessons. Travis asked what was going on and talked to jenny for a while and then told her he would come back soon. He went there most days one day he got home from school and a woman named Tresa and she watched her son chris and on some weekends he would come stay with Ken.

She told him his mother had called and he called her right away. She said that a letter came i the mail from the publishing place and he told her to send it right away. He waited a couple days and it came it said that the publisher wanted to meet him in person. He was so exited he called the number on the paper and she told him she would need to figure out where and when they would meet. The next week he got a call that the coming saturday she would be a the airport and that they could have lunch together.

They met that saturday and the woman was really nice and and wanted him to fix a few things in the book and that was about it. The man fought Travis and Travis was hurt then the manager came and talked tho the guy and told him he wasn't fired then he started and kicked Travis one more time. Uncle Ken said he would have brought him to get a beer.

Taming The Star Runner

Casey rides a horse thats called "The Star Runner" real beautiful horse but its crazy. One day Travis gets a call from a women named Ms. Travis tells everyone he is very excited he's actually a writer now. And no one seems to understand his excitement they dont know the right things too say to him.

Finally Travis and Casey admitted their feelings for each other but then they got into an accident and after that he really didnt feel the same. Travis friend Joe comes to him with a crazy story on how he is on the run so Traviz asks Ken Travis's uncle for some helpand Joe turns himself in and as all that is going on Travis's book is getting Published and as for Joe no one really knows what happened to him. I liked everything about this book it wax very interesting to read and I actuakky didnt want too stop.

My favorite part of the whole book is when Travis finally admits to Casey how heis in love and she basically feels the same way. Whzt was very confusing was the way the storh kind of jumps around and you get confused alittle bit but just for a few seconds. This author is very specific when sbe wrotes and thats why I love reading her books. What I really did not like about this book is how Ken and Travis's relationship really didnt grow they bad little moments during the whole thing but it rezlly wasn't what I wanted it too be.

I wish the ending was alittle different maye alittle mkre detaiked bht other then that the book was amazing. I would deffintly recommend this book to anyone. He pretty much tries not to let it show but he wants to be a writer. In high school you can imagine how this would go over. He has a lousy stepfather as seems oft to be the case, who does something incredibly insensitive to Travis and it lands Travis out in the mid west living with his Uncle on a farm away from the city and everything he knows and understands.

Talk about a "fish out of water"! Here he meets Casey and her crazy horse, The Star Runner. Slowly a relationship between Travis, Casey, and his Uncle Ken begins to develop. Here is where Ms. Weaving a story full of vibrant characters and their interactions into a deeply felt finality. The ending is extremely subtle and true to real life. Again, what I love about this author.

Taming the Star Runner went into print just over twenty years after S. Hinton's first novel The Outsiders. Having written five books for young adults Hinton manages to make them all stand alone, which is a fine skill.

Yet, the story covers many personal issues that the lead character Travis finds himself in. It seems no matter which Hinton book you choose parenting is a theme that has a major impact on the lead character. Hinton gives more of herself in this book than any other, which makes it extra special.

The fact that Travis aims to become a young published author and develops an interest in horses is very S. I appreciated that Hinton identified in this book that adults from fortunate and less fortunate backgrounds can find personal relationships difficult, which allowed Travis and the reader to realise that we as human beings all have our own faults, and it's up to us as individuals to make the best of what we have.

As they return to Ken's ranch, a huge lightning storm strikes and Ken and Travis must go help Casey round up the horses into the barn. As they do this, the Star Runner breaks free of his paddock. Casey and Travis give chase only to have Casey's jeep struck by lightning. Although it is not directly stated, the Star Runner is killed This is implied from Travis smelling burned flesh.

The book ends as Casey and Travis have recovered from the accident and the temporary hearing loss. Though Casey had previously spurned Travis' romantic overtures, they are now close friends who share a common bond. Travis also realizes that he, like the Star Runner, should never allow himself to be tamed or broken, even when life is at its worst. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
