It has become a mantra and a marketing tool for politicians and merchandise alike. According to Wikipedia , [2] a similar slogan "Never forget the class struggle" was introduced by 1st Chairman of the Communist Party of China Mao Zedong in , which subsequently became a popular slogan for the Chinese Cultural Revolution throughout the s.

The similar phrase "Lest we forget" originated in the refrain of the poem Recessional , [5] written by Rudyard Kipling in , in reference to the decline of British imperial power. In the Commonwealth countries, the phrase is commonly associated with World War I, specifically the battles that took place in Flanders. Following the suicide plane attacks against the United States on September 11th, , the slogan was used to commemorate those who lost their lives. It also became associated with the United States militarism after being adopted by those who supported the subsequent War on Terror.

On January 1st, , Xkcd published a comic titled "America," which included a timeline with the event "Jimmy Carter attacked by giant swimming rabbit" and the caption "America must never forget" shown below. On January 26th, , the webcomic site Dern Werks [8] published an illustration of an ape from the science fiction film Planet of the Apes in front of a fallen Statue of Liberty with the caption "Never Forget" shown below. Within one month, the post received over 24, up votes and 1, comments.

The placards had been placed in various locations throughout Boston, Massachusetts as part of a guerrilla marketing campaign by the company Interference, Inc. After police arrested two men who had been hired to install the signs, many responded by calling the arrests an overreaction and holding signs saying " Never Forget" shown below. On August 23rd, , a small earthquake erupted across the east coast of the United States, that resulted in a barrage of social media activity about the underwhelming seismic activity. Please try again later. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Most books I pick up, I put down after the first few pages. I was simply swept up in the story. Meara is such a relatable, sympathetic main character and my heart went out to her and her terminally ill mother.

The setting was unforgettable, and described so well that I almost felt as if I were there.

In fact, I swear I could literally feel the biting chill coming off the Atlantic Ocean. And I read this in August! This book is paranormal, but light on the fantasy and heavy on the character relationships. I thought it was a perfect balance for this story. I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series.

I loved this more than I thought I would.

It was beautifully emotional and well written. I loved the depth of the characters and I liked that the majority of the story was normal life with a light fantasy aspect if that makes sense. It was truly a lovely story. There were a few typos but they were minor and the storytelling outweighs the typos. I am really conflicted about this series.

I don't understand why this book has so many stars because in short, nothing really happens. The story is dragging really slowly and is boring.

    5. I expected something else not a daily life of a teenage girl. The most important parts of the story, when she finds out about her father, about her aunt Ula and that she is a half selkie are scattered thorough the story and if you were looking for some fantasy and action packed story this book is not the one.

    Everything is normally done, daily routine like Meara going with her mom to the hospital or to school, clubbing and so on are boring events that don't lead to the character's development. The only scene that made me cry was her mother's death but it was easily forgotten after Meara just had sex the day of her mother's funeral. I read the sneak peak to the next book, it tempts me but I don't want to regret spending money on the next book because I bet it is the same boring and slow paced book.

    Going back to this book after reading an action packed one was worse than when i started reading it.
