At the same time, England had not done badly out of the peace deal it had struck in Utrecht. Welfare in the country increased, certainly in London. Handel brought together new and old material, but just what was old and what was new we do not know. Probably some of the work dated from his student days in Germany, some from his years in Italy, and the new material from his time in London.

Little is written about the series of Preludes and Capriccios and Allegros although they were likely written for Organ or Harpsichord. I think you should omit the demiquavers and the Arco in measure 2 just on the Contrabass part. They can do it just fine but I think it would sound better. Just my opinion though. This arrangement is really great!

Orchestral Suite in G minor, BWV 1070

I'm in fact learning to play this on the piano right now: Thank you for your kind words! I have heard this piece can be pretty challenging. As someone who doesn't play piano I cannot understand how one manages the measure 35 section in the original Prelude.

Arpeggios on one hand I believe and the melody in the other. Of course it's probably just like how I manage difficult parts with my viola, the more practice, the more you know what comes next. Yes, that section is rather difficult, but not for the reason you might think - the arpeggios fit rather nicely in the hand. The real trick is to not make the arpeggios loud and overpowering compared to the melody.

Plus it all has to be quiet.

  4. The movement in the submediant major subdominant parallel begins with a recitative-like figure, then adopts a more measured, flowing style built on the same figurations. The main minuet in G minor is heavy-treaded and the central trio is in the bright G major the tonic major. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
