I just loved this book. The characters feel real and complex. I like romances in which we see characters actually doing their jobs, and Ms. Lohmann provides a real feel for Max's life as a small farmer and for Trey's as a lobbyist. Both characters have issues and change over the course of the book. While I've only been to North Carolina once, the setting felt very real.

So, this was interesting. Much as I'm not a fan of city to country stories, this more or less worked for me because it was a dude transplanting his life for the woman's career and they're still in a city-ish area assuming I understand North Carolina geography correctly. I also thought the stuff with accepting his father was pretty well done.

However, 'Weekends in Carolina' was a bit of a snooze, interesting characters, a captivating Southern setting, but no emotional fizz or romance.

But, like magic the characters took off and had you cheering for them. It was a fun read about a young woman who wanted to farm and sell produce at the weekly farmers market and before you know it things start happening that keep you from putting this one down.
