May 14, Samuel Best rated it really liked it.

Review for Dead Heroes by Mike Buckley: A contingent of soldiers and their mechs attempt to reclaim Earth from the Living Forest, which is nature on steroids. Those they left behind worship the heroes from a ramshackle base inside an old baseball stadium, which is surrounded by the mysterious forest.

Making things all the trickier is The Blank, an unknown affliction thought to be a product of the Living Forest. It steals the civilians' memories at night, leaving them in a constant fog - never qui Review for Dead Heroes by Mike Buckley: It steals the civilians' memories at night, leaving them in a constant fog - never quite remembering why they're back on Earth, nor why the ship in orbit hasn't spoken to them in thirty years. All they know - all they have ever known - is that they love their heroes, and eagerly await their return.

Gritty, visceral, intriguing, and, ultimately, unforgiving. Several scenes in this will haunt me for a while. Prasetyo Plastics" had an interesting idea about plastics being absorbed into everything and then gaining intelligence, but this is more of an idea than a story. I found Catalog of Virgins and "Dead Heroes" less comprehensible.
