Veganism has gained popularity in less than years, really gaining momentum only in the last Some doctors believe that each generation of vegans grows more nutrient deficient. We are not fast runners, so could not catch potential prey. Our ancestors eating natural diets were able to run so long that they exhausted the deer they were chasing.

They can chase a herd until the slowest or weakest animal must rest. Native Americans chased down animals on foot. The Tarahumara of northern Mexico chased deer through the mountains until the animals collapsed from exhaustion. In fact, some anthropologist believe that these changes evolved in order to enable man to hunt down animals. According to Harold Hawkins, author of the textbook Applied Nutrition, 20 of our 32 teeth are of the meat-eating type. He is able to create tools because he has hands with dexterous fingers. In fact, even other primates have been known to make tools! Tools eliminated the need to evolve sharp teeth, claws, and strong jaws.

Furthermore, man began cooking meat long before he began cooking plant material. This enabled the meat to be chewed more easily. Oral features were also influenced by the larger brain, which needed more space, and the development of language, which required a flexible oral system: Bipedal posture also influenced the human head shape. Paleo man may have eaten meat, but it shortened his lifespan. In reality, scientists do not have any way to determine how long paleo humans lived. If a fossil skeleton is that of a child or young adult, the age can be estimated relatively accurately.

An adult skeleton could be 40, or it could be There are not a great number of these skeletons around for scientists to do a comparative analysis. Using epidemiology, anthropology, and archeology, experts have found that pre- agricultural man had greater health than modern man, busting the myth that paleo man was malnourished and ill. A diet low in saturated fats and cholesterol is more healthful. We need adequate amounts of saturated fats and cholesterol to have healthy brains and nervous systems. Diets too low in these necessary fats can actually impair the brain and nervous system.

Meat is toxic and causes cancer. This is true only for modern, factory-farmed meat, which is full of pesticides, hormones, steroids, and antibiotics. The types of meat can also be important. For example, consumption of processed meats and overeating of red meat can increase the chances of colorectal cancer, while eating fish decreases that risk. In other words, go easy on eating mammals, and avoid nitrate-cured meats like hot dogs, cold cuts, bacon, ham, and deli meats. Wild meats eaten by our hunter-gatherer ancestors were very low in fat, and the fat they did have was extremely healthful, rich in omega-3 fats.

Furthermore, the claim that vegetarians have lower cancer rates has not held up to scrutiny. A study comparing vegetarians with the general population found that although vegetarians have slightly lower cancer rates in some areas, the cancer rate of vegetarians is actually higher in other areas: Their consumption results in the production of dihydrotestosterone, a carcinogenic form of testosterone, in the prostate.

Meat is overstimulating, which is why you feel more energized after eating it. You experience sustained energy with meat because it stabilizes your blood sugar. Carbohydrates stimulate insulin release, which can result in a quick boost followed by a sudden drop in energy. Red meat also contains carnitine, which improves your mitochondrial metabolism and function, giving you more even energy. Our digestive tracts are like those of herbivores. The human digestive tract is like that of the omnivorous pig, not like that of a ruminant or herbivore.

The human and pig digestive systems are very similar. Their digestive systems include all the same organs that we have: The functions of the organs are the same as well. Pigs do best on a human paleolithic diet of vegetables, fruit, meat, and a small amount of potatoes. They experience better insulin resistance, lower blood pressure, and less inflammation. Our digestive tract is intermediate in length between that of a carnivore and that of an herbivore, as Ruth F. Rosevear, LD, NC, explains. Our digestive tract is 68 percent omnivorous. To find this out, divide the length of the spine into the length of the intestines.

In an herbivore like sheep, the result is 26; in a carnivore, seven. Man is in the middle with 13 times the length of the spine. Most physiology books will show how a dog has short intestines, the cow a long intestine, and man a middle length. You can get all the nutrients you need from a diet of plants alone. We now know that most plant sources of B12 are only B12 analogues and can actually increase your need for B Analogues are similar enough to compete for the same receptor sites as the truly usable B12, creating a situation in which you have less metabolically available B There are a few seaweed sources of small amounts of B12 but only if they are truly raw.

True vitamin A is found only in animal foods. Most people are not efficient in converting beta-carotene into vitamin A, besides which, to consume sufficient amounts would mean eating or juicing a vegetable diet very expensive in time and money. Some of these nutrients can be synthesizer in the body, but the conversion is often not efficient.

We can supplement for whatever animal food nutrients we cannot get from plants.

New nutrients are still being discovered from time to time. Many vegans ruined their nervous systems and brains before B12 and DHA were discovered. Nutrition is a relatively new science. The first vitamin was discovered as recently as The importance of omega-3 fats was identified only in the s. The glycemic index was first formulated in Relying on pills is too simplistic.

Furthermore, nutrients work together synergistically.

For this reason, it is always better to get them from whole foods in the proper ratios and balances that humans evolved eating. Finally, synthetic vitamins are often not assimilated properly by the body. I was taking sublingual B12 and yet developed a B12 deficiency. Even after taking B12 injections for a year, I still had some deficiency symptoms. A vegetarian or vegan diet will help you lose weight. They might actually gain weight on these diets. Their triglycerides can also become elevated. For most people, our pancreases have not evolved to tolerate diets as high in carbs as modern-day omnivorous diets, let alone vegetarian diets.

Young people appear to get away with it, but they often find themselves with a midlife spread by their 40s. Some people do lose weight on raw vegan diets. But after a while, one can even gain weight. To get enough protein, a person will eat so many nuts and seeds that he gets sleepy, because these foods are so high in fat.

Another factor is that nuts can be hard to digest, even if soaked, increasing fatigue. The extra fat calories from all the nuts and seeds add fat to your body. This is especially true for women, who put on weight more easily than men. Nutritionist Natalia Rose agrees. The raw food community comes out hailing the virtues of raw oils and coconut butter some even promote the fiction that they can eat as much of it as they want and not gain weight! I quickly realized that by and large it was the men in the movement that were praising these fatty substances.

This is because when you overeat carbs, your body secretes excess insulin. It makes a great cleanse; most people can go on it for as long as three months without problems, but I have encountered at least a dozen people who lost teeth or got several cavities from eating so much fruit. I was not getting enough protein and essential fatty acids.

When you are relying on sugar instead of fat for fuel, you crave carbs. As you eat them, your blood sugar rises, especially if the carbs are cooked, because cooked carbs are absorbed more quickly than the same carbs raw. On such a diet, you tend to get hungry all the time because you are burning sugar, not fat. This is why so many vegans lose muscle and get flabby. Note that this applies less to younger people, as they can switch quickly from burning sugar to burning fat on an as-needed basis.

It may not apply at all if you are a carb type. This is because your body simply taps into its fat reserves and burns those for fuel. Another factor in the lack of hunger is that your blood sugar remains stable. Many trials have been carried out in the last decade comparing the weight loss and health effects of low-fat vs. The low-carb dieters in general lost more weight and had much healthier profiles of HDL, blood pressure, and triglycerides. Their risk of heart attacks decreased.

A vegetarian ages more slowly and looks younger. Eating fruit and cooked carbs leads to higher blood sugar levels. The results of glycation,— the bonding of sugar to protein, show up on our skin as well, producing wrinkles. In one study, researchers compared 19 vegetarians with 19 omnivorous people and found that even though the omnivores ate more carbs, they had fewer AGEs because they ate less fruit]— Furthermore, the dipeptide carnosine is found only in meat.

Carnosine suppresses AGE formation, glycation, cross-linking, and protein oxidation. If a diet makes you feel good the first year or two, it will be good for a lifetime. This seems very rational. After all, a year or two is a long time. But the body can store B12 in the liver, as well as fat-soluble vitamins, like A and D. Deficiencies of these vitamins can take years, or even a decade, to show up. Vegetarians live about 7 to 9 years longer. Studies have shown that many of the health benefits attributed to vegetarians were actually because these folks are more health conscious.

For example, in a study done by Dean Ornish, a group was instructed to exercise a minimum of three times a week, use stress management for an hour a day, eat a vegetarian diet, and attend group support sessions twice a week. The control group were told nothing. A study on California Seventh-Day Adventists showed a similar result. Choices regarding diet, exercise, cigarette smoking, body weight, and hormone replacement therapy in combination appear to change life expectancy by many years.

The longevity experience of Adventists probably demonstrates the beneficial effects of more optimal behaviors. Diet is only one component of a multitude of health factors that also include a strong social support system. Another study of 34, Seventh-Day Adventists who were vegetarians found them to be healthy and have a low mortality rate. But when compared to other groups of people, such as Mormon high priests who also have healthful lifestyles but include meat in their diets, there was no benefit in being vegetarian.

The decrease in mortality rate was found to be from the healthful lifestyle. Vegetarians showed a slightly higher 4 percent rate of death from cancer, although the death rate from circulatory or ischemic heart disease was a tiny bit lower in vegetarians. There were no significant benefits to being a vegetarian as opposed to a health-conscious nonvegetarian. The study indicated that it is ample consumption of fruits and vegetables and not the exclusion of meat that makes vegetarians healthy.

But other causes of death did not show significant differences. There were no significant differences between vegetarians and nonvegetarians in mortality from cerebrovascular disease, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, or prostate cancer, or all other causes combined. Nutrient intakes in 94 Japanese centenarians investigated between and showed a higher proportion of animal protein to total proteins than in contemporary average Japanese.

High intakes of milk and fats and oils had favorable effects on year survivorship in urban residents aged The survivors revealed a longitudinal increase in intakes of no animal foods such as eggs, milk, fish, and meat over the 10 years. Intakes of carbohydrates and salt were also lower in the Okinawan. Russell Smith, a statistician, analyzed all the existing studies on vegetarianism in , including the Kahn and Snowden study. In effect the Kahn [and Snowden] study is yet another example of negative results which are massaged and misinterpreted to support the politically correct assertions that vegetarians live longer lives.

When all of the data are taken into account, the actual differences of heart disease between vegetarians and nonvegetarians in these studies were hardly a significant amount. Smith suspected that many studies were left unpublished because they showed the inferiority of a vegetarian diet, and those who ran the studies had hoped to show the opposite. He also found that as animal food consumption increased in several of the studies, mortality decreased! In other words, the vegetarians lived shorter lives than people who included meat in their diets. The yearly all-cause death rate of vegetarian men is slightly higher than for omnivores 0.

Every year, vegetarian women die at a rate of 0. Eating meat is unnatural and disgusting, chosen only by conditioning. Babies have been known to love meat. In fact, Guy-Claude Burger was the modern promoter of the Instinctive Diet,— a diet in which people use their instincts to decide what to eat. The infant chose to eat it and slept peacefully through the night. Its stools were normal. Eating preferences are personal and can change. For years I hated fish. Once I tried raw seviche, I became hooked. Some people love hot dogs and processed meat, but those with more refined tastes enjoy wild game infinitely better than factory-farmed meat.

I know plenty of people who hate eating vegetables, while they are a favorite food for others. I know more who cannot stand durians, a smelly fruit, while others adore them. Natto, a fermented Asian soy dish with a very strong odor, is likely the only plant food with significant levels of vitamin K2, critical for the bones.

It is so stinky that the Japanese restaurants that serve it have a separate room for people who order it. Healthful foods are not always the best tasting, especially when our tastes have been so corrupted by diets high in sugar, salt, and food additives. Tastes also change with time and circumstances. When I had been a vegan for several years, I would wonder how I could have ever eaten meat, but after a few weeks of eating it again, I wondered how I could have ever thought that this was unnatural.

I grew up absolutely despising the taste of fish. Now I eat small, oily fish because they are crucial for my brain and well-being. In The Butcher and the Vegetarian, vegetarian-raised Tara Weaver takes us on her journey of eating various kinds of meat for the first time. We all need to become vegetarians for global food sustainability. Agriculture is what is destroying the planet. It destroys the topsoil.

Agriculture, which accelerated with the use of petroleum fuel, created overpopulation, which is destroying the land and creating the extinction of numerous species. It might feed everyone for a time, but everyone would have poor health because our bodies evolved with dependencies on certain nutrients found in animal products, as we shall see in chapter 6.

Most of us need to eat low-carb diets for peak health. On a high-carb, vegetarian diet, many of us would see our health and our brains deteriorate, and our life spans would greatly decrease. It would be very unsustainable to each individual. To a large degree, this is what happened in India. They now have a large population of undernourished people with short life spans. This is a very subjective experience.

If someone feels that way, it may be true for him. He may then decide that his spiritual growth is more important than peak health. Yet there have been numerous great spiritual leaders throughout history who ate meat. Why would he do that if he thought it was unspiritual to eat them? We can all reach peak health as vegetarians. Many people — perhaps a majority — are sensitive to excess carbs. We evolved eating low-glycemic, low-carb diets. Nondairy animal products are the only foods with almost zero carbs. There appear to be different metabolic types, as we shall see.

Some people do thrive on vegetarian and even vegan diets. A high-protein diet is bad for the kidneys and creates osteoporosis. First of all, a high-protein diet is not recommended. Second, a low-protein diet may be called for in kidney disease, but if one is healthy, kidneys are not harmed by protein, especially if it is not cooked.

Studies have shown that an adequate protein diet is great for the bones, in fact necessary for strong bones. After all, they are partially composed of protein. Some studies that showed protein was bad for the bones were using unnatural foods, such as whey powder. Is Anyone Winning at Losing? A Critical Review of the Literature, vol. C 41 Weaver, Butcher and Vegetarian, 68 42 See chapter Chapter 3 Origins of Vegetarianism and Veganism As yet I have not found a single group of primitive racial stock which was building and maintaining excellent bodies by living entirely on plant foods.

I have found in many parts of the world most devout representatives of modern ethical systems advocating the restriction of foods to the vegetable products. In every instance where the groups involved had been long under the teaching, I found evidence of degeneration in the form of dental caries, and in the new generation in the form of abnormal dental arches to an extent very much higher than in the primitive groups who were not under this influence. Dairy might also be included. Origins of Vegetarianism Eastern Origins The concept of ahimsa nonviolence to, and the sacredness of, all living creatures began thousands of years ago in India in the religion of Hinduism, which has a number of gods that are represented by animal images.

The cow is especially revered and allowed to go anywhere it wants. Once while in India, I was waiting for my train at the station and got annoyed that someone had rudely bumped into me. When I turned around to give the person a dirty look, I laughed when I saw that it was a cow! I have been there three times. There are few places in the world where you can go to a small city and see such diverse life on the streets: Nowhere is there a country that so loves animals. The people even dedicate temples to the animals and offer them food.

He feels that vegetarianism in India developed as a result of overpopulation. The majority of his practice has involved treating both vegans and vegetarians. He found that for most people, eating a broad vegan diet is not sufficient.

Blood Types, Body Types And You (Revised & Expanded)

Ideally, you can argue that it could be if you include a source of B12, if all the food is grown organically in mineral-rich soils, and if you lived in an environment without the pollution and psychological stresses that increase your needs for certain nutrients, such as B vitamins and C and many trace minerals. They talk about the use of all kinds of animals: India did not become vegetarian because of a spiritual awakening or for personal health reasons, but because of environmental pressures.

It became both uneconomical and unsanitary to raise animals in so crowded an environment. The avoidance of cattle slaughter originated in the Vedic period BC. The strategy adopted was to restrict animal sacrifice to ceremonial occasions and the entertainment of guests and to make the cow a sacred animal. Cows are needed by farmers as plow animals. Slaughtering cows would not enable people to have enough for their farms. Others use the cows to sell milk. Cow love is an active element in a complex, finely articulated material and cultural order.

Cow love mobilizes the latent capacity of human beings to persevere in a low-energy ecosystem in which there is little room for waste or indolence. Cow love contributes to the adaptive resilience of the human population by preserving temporarily dry or barren but still useful animals; by discouraging the growth of an energy-expensive beef industry.. While in India, I noted that the Sikhs, Muslims, and Christians all three of whom do eat meat were often healthier looking than the Hindus. Of course, most of the Hindus, who make up the majority of the Indian population, are very poor.

They are eating a barely sustainable diet of mainly lentils and rice. They are extremely underweight and have short life spans. At the same time, the middle and upper classes are often overweight due to their high-carb diets, especially because their food is mostly cooked. Leon Abrams discussed the nutritional problem in a Natural History Magazine article.

The greater percentage of the population, who subsist almost entirely on vegetable foods, suffer from kwashiorkor [protein-calorie malnutrition], other forms of malnutrition, and have the shortest life span in the world. In my extensive travels over the world, I have noted that those countries whose populations subsist primarily on a vegetarian diet, such as India, exhibit the highest degree of general 47 debilitated health, stunted growth, and the highest death rates at an early age.

One study found that although the omnivorous people in the northern India area of Punjab eat 17 times more animal fat than those in the Southern city of Madras, they have a seven times lower rate of heart disease. He was a great philosopher and mathematician and also adhered to a belief in the transmigration of souls.

During the Middles Ages, if a Christian advocated vegetarianism, he risked being accused of this pagan belief called metempsychosis. At the other extreme of the debate was 17th century philosopher Rene Descartes, who insisted that animals were mere machines. In the US, the vegetarian diet was popularized by health reformers like Rev. Sylvester Graham, who founded the American Vegetarian Society and invented graham crackers. John Harvey Kellogg, MD, followed him as a vegetarian advocate and invented corn flakes.

This book argued that we could feed the world if we stopped raising cattle, overlooking the fact that cattle in nature do not eat the same plant foods that humans eat, which would eliminate much of this advantage. It seems that most vegetarians and vegans are young people aged 20 to 40 who are inspired by sustainability, ecology, spirituality, and morality. Better health is thought to be a mere side benefit for many of them. I have observed that many of them give up after five to seven years when they develop deficiencies, experience too much Candida or bloating from all the carbs, or lose too much muscle mass.

The Rise of Veganism I spent a whole month as a vegan one day. Seriously, after all the debates involving intestine-length, canine teeth and gut pH, one fact remains that usually quiets most vegans: Even the use of nonconsumable animal products, such as leather, is shunned by some. According to a survey, about a million people in the US are abandoning animal products. Indeed, it is promoted as the opposite.

The diet is touted as good for weight loss and health while being likewise kind to animals, eco-friendly, sustainable, and planet saving. Yet for most people, the nutritional deficiencies that result can be profound. For many, it is a stealth factor that may take a decade or more to show up.

For some unfortunate people, by the time they realize it was the lack of animal food, the deficiencies have already created permanent damage. Even without deficiency symptoms, the foods that often replace the protein sources of the vegan who eats cooked foods grains, legumes, and soy are toxic and damaging in themselves. As passionate as I am about health and love to teach peak health to everyone who is interested, they are equally passionate in their true compassion for other creatures and feel their mission is to get others to see the light about animal suffering.

At the root of veganism is a yearning to see the end of fear, pain, and suffering. Who could be opposed to that? Mental Life, Moral Status and Kinship, makes a plea. How can intelligent people who purport to be deeply concerned with animal welfare and respectful of life turn a blind eye to such practices? And how can people continue to eat meat when they become aware that nearly 53 billion land animals are slaughtered every year for human consumption? If they did care, they would learn as much as possible about the ways in which our society systematically abuses animals, and they would make what is at once a very simple and a very difficult choice: We have been trained by a history of thinking of which we are scarcely aware to view nonhuman animals as resources we are entitled to employ in whatever ways we see fit in order to n satisfy our needs and desires.

While most people can agree that we need to treat animals much better than we do, most vegans are unaware that forsaking all animal foods may lead to serious health consequences down the road. Some people cannot thrive on a percent vegan diet. No other primates are vegans.

Throughout the vast majority of human history, such a diet never existed for us. The fact is there are many nutrients found only in animal products. Even if you were to take supplements to compensate, how do you know that there are not as-yet-undiscovered nutrients in animal foods? Researchers are always finding new nutrients. Even assuming that we have already discovered every important nutrient, a highly dubious supposition, taking synthetic supplements for those nutrients our diets need is never as good as getting those nutrients from whole foods, with all the accompanying cofactors present in proper balance.

Mahatma Gandhi devoted much of his life to veganism but failed to make the diet work for him. In , he and 22 companions embarked on a plant- only diet. The diet worked well for a time but failed to provide adequate long-term sustenance. They had to add goat milk to their diet. No wonder that mortality figures are on the increase, and there is a lack of energy in the people.

It would appear as if man is really unable to sustain life without either meat or milk and milk products. It is people abuse. The vegan utopia may be unattainable for many of us. Consuming animal products is the way of this world, at least at this point in time — the way of nature. Animal cruelty is appalling, admittedly, but there are humane and sustainable ways of animal husbandry.

People have eaten eggs throughout history.

People, even vegetarians who would not intentionally eat a living creature, have consumed insects and insect eggs unwittingly. Insect eggs are often found in raw psyllium or bran. I used to find little worms in my bran or psyllium husk that I kept for fiber and colon cleansing. I also recall eating a candy bar in Mexico decades ago. I bit into it and saw a tiny worm squiggling around.

This explains why most nuts you buy have been heated to kill the insect eggs. I think most are very confident that their health will in no way suffer. I wonder if they would still refrain from at least eating eggs if they realized that some long-term damage to their brains and nervous systems could result. I wonder if they would eat a vegan diet if they were pregnant, or feed their kids a vegan diet during the critical years that their brains are developing, if they knew it could potentially damage their offspring.

My experience with vegans has shown that many of them are quite dogmatic. When I began to realize that many of the teachings of my fundamentalist religion were flawed, I kept my mouth shut just so as not to lose my social group. I had to keep quiet about my revelations in order to be accepted. I found the same thing in much of the raw vegan community. When people first get into a vegetarian or vegan diet, they get very excited.

It makes a tremendous cleanse the first three months. So does fasting on water — in fact, much more so. I am sure you will agree that living on water as a permanent lifestyle is nutritionally deficient. The same might occur with a vegan or vegetarian diet. But with these restricted diets, the deficiencies can take years or even decades to show up. It is a good idea to get regular blood tests, as the deficiencies will show up there before you get permanent damage. Vegan diets are especially deficient, as they omit eggs. Eggs contain nearly everything you can find in meat, though you may have to eat a lot of them to get enough of certain nutrients.

Sooner or later deficiencies often manifest. Eventually even the gung-ho leaders feel tempted to cheat, because their brains are starving for saturated fats found in animal foods. Many of them feel guilty and think that their indulgences were merely due to emotional causes or lack of willpower. Few of them reverse their public opinions of the diet, because they truly believe it is the best despite their occasional personal lapses.

Also, they are making a living by selling their books, as well as giving their workshops and lectures. Bass, as well as witnesses who have written about this on certain websites, Dr. He claims that one person even died of starvation on a raw vegan diet, as his body began to eat itself, destroying his heart. He witnessed several of these leaders doing so, yet they would still claim they had been percent raw vegan for 20 years. Frederic Patenaude, owner of www. I think it depends on each individual. I personally have found benefits in including some animal products in my diet, and many others have found that too.

There are many health benefits in becoming at least mainly vegetarian or even mainly vegan, as well as increasing the amount of raw fruits and vegetables that we eat. Bob Avery, also the editor of this book, admits that though he is primarily raw vegan, he occasionally eats raw liver now after developing B12 deficiency symptoms more than once. He now also eats raw eggs and has started consuming cod liver oil for vitamin D in the winter months. A noted raw food leader blocked his e-mail address when she discovered that he had been advising a person suffering from a neurological condition to eat a moderate amount of raw fish!

Robbins admits that he now supplements his mainly vegan diet with fish.

On his site, he says that eating wild fish is not as bad as eating factory-farmed animals. I e-mailed John to ask if he now eats fish. And other leaders are beginning to catch on. Raw diet author and lecturer Victoria Boutenko now suggests eating insects as our primate cousins do and as most people in Third World countries do! Someone who works for raw vegan leader David Wolfe told me that even David is now telling some people to eat krill oil, on an as-needed basis. Furthermore, the Hallelujah Acres raw vegan magazine had an article in which they recommend fish oil for its omega-3s.

Shortly after restoring my health by adding a few clean animal foods to my diet, I discovered that the folks who had originally convinced me to follow a pure vegan diet actually added small amounts of raw, organic cheese and, in one case, organic eggs to their meals. To this day I cannot understand how some people can pound home the message of being percent vegan for optimal health while they include small amounts of animal foods in their diets at home. The only explanation that I can think of is that they might feel that by admitting to using small amounts of animal foods, their philosophies are not as tight as they would like them to be.

I even received e- mails from two very prominent and well-respected members of the vegan AR [Arkansas] community. One a published and much-loved vegan cookbook author, the other a noted animal rights blogger, their e-mails detailed their health struggles and eventual unpublicized return to eating meat. Former raw vegan author Harvey Diamond, who sold millions of copies of Fit for Life, which promoted a vegan diet, has since revised his opinion about deleting animal foods from the diet. Raw food advocate Paul Nison now eats some raw dairy and eggs. We are evolving, changing creatures.

Within a few thousand years, maybe everyone who survives the overpopulation will be vegan or at least vegetarian. But we should monitor where our bodies are now and not push ourselves beyond our current evolutionary stage. No society has ever, to my knowledge, sustained itself for long exclusively on plant foods. There may have been traditional cultures whose only animal product consumption consisted of grasshoppers, beetles, grubs, or other insects, but all have partaken of at least a minimal amount of animal foods. I knew that eating raw was the greatest health secret ever, so that part was not to blame.

Also, a raw vegan diet, abstaining from all animal products, may be the very best cleansing mechanism that exists. Periods of meatlessness or sparse eating have been incorporated into many traditional cultures and religions. People have reversed all sorts of diseases on vegan, vegetarian, and raw vegan diets. Yet I began to realize that vegan diets often led to deficiencies of vital nutrients that the body can stockpile for years. As I researched, I realized even a vegetarian diet that includes only eggs and dairy but no meat is not what our bodies evolved on.

We are sold on the vegan diet as sustainable for the planet. Don't have an account? Update your profile Let us wish you a happy birthday! Make sure to buy your groceries and daily needs Buy Now.
