It is obvious that it is a start to a series, but it still has a fairly complete story on its own. I am not sure if I will pick up the next one, but this book was pretty good. It was probably 3. I think Jack was my favorite character. He tries to take care of everybody. Dec 20, Abigail Stutzman rated it it was amazing. I'm getting hooked on this author she keeps amazing me with her skill. Bit is trying to find her own identity while struggling with PTSD and her relationship with the crew vying her attention. But it was actually pretty good, yet too short. I couldn't put it down! I lost many hours of sleep because I had to know what happens next!! Mar 17, Ashley rated it really liked it Shelves: This was a really short read but still very enjoyable. For being free I was really surprised at how well it was written and loved all the characters. I can't tell if this will be some sort of reverse harem series or develop a normal romance. Either way Bit was very enjoyable and I am rooting for Oden! Will be continuing with the series! Good light-weight read, well done.

A very short, very easy read. I'll be reading on, as not much was resolved. It felt like an intro novella, more than an actual self standing story. But it was enjoyable. Hopefully, though, Bit will choose just one romantic interest. Don't care for the multiple potential mates. Just found out the series isn't on Kindle Unlimited, so Jan 04, Julia rated it it was ok. Short novella that is a series when it really should likely be combined into one book because this first part was not good. Every character was two-dimensional and "Bit" was not a sympathetic heroine since all aspects of her character are told to you and she never displays much in the way of personality.

Thankfully it was free on amazon. Mar 02, Julie Powell rated it it was amazing. An enjoyable introduction to a space adventure, where Bit finds herself after being won in a card game Good characters and interaction, some interesting backstory and the beginning of romance. I will definitely read another book from this author. May 18, Beth rated it liked it. Space opera with technology issues This is really a novella with the book ending in the middle of a larger story. It is not a cliffhanger, but definitely an unfinished book The heroine has been an indentured servant for most of her life. She is won at a poker game by the brother of a freighter captain. This installment shows Bit the heroine settling into the ship. She is the only woman on board, but the crew is more curious than lecherous. Some of the men begin to court her. The book ends with Space opera with technology issues This is really a novella with the book ending in the middle of a larger story.

The book ends with a space battle. While I largely enjoyed the book, I found the technology a problem. It does not seem to have changed from now, except for space travel. There are washing machines and dryers. Weaponry is much like today's. Bread dough is kneaded by hand. The book could just as well have taken place in the 18th or 21st centuries. The were few typos and incorrect word choices. Not sure if I will read the sequel. Dec 17, Jennifer G rated it really liked it. Larissa, known as Bit is an indentured a servant recently won in a card game by Calen, a ship's pilot.

She is taken aboard a space ship where Calen's brother Jack is the captain. They are in danger of pirates in space and once landing on Mars in danger from several fronts. This is an action heavy book, but it's success is due more to the cast of characters.

Bit is an interesting lead female. She's bright, but not educated; fearfu Larissa, known as Bit is an indentured a servant recently won in a card game by Calen, a ship's pilot. She's bright, but not educated; fearful, lacking experience, yet eager to experience this new world. It's easy to feel sympathetic and protective of her. Jack, Calen, Blaine, Oden, and the rest of the crew aren't as developed, but we do get to know the basic characters, and they each have great potential.

Trust and Treachery

I really don't like love triangles in most books, they irritate me. The only potential irritation in this story is that it looks like 4 men are interested in her. The good thing is that Bit is naive enough not to r This book could have used better edits but it is a good start to this space opera series. The good thing is that Bit is naive enough not to realize this.

I hope that it solves itself so I don't waste time waiting for her to make a decision. Aug 25, Jana Petken rated it it was amazing. I really enjoyed this read. It was short, and I would have liked it to be longer; to see a more intense development of the characters, but having said that, I thought the plot was great, and the characters, interesting. When reading the book description, I wondered what this woman, Bit, would do.

She was, in essence, a slave, caught up in human trafficking, an ancient, past, present, and no doubt, future practice in this world. The subject was handled well, the writing was intelligent, and all in I really enjoyed this read. The subject was handled well, the writing was intelligent, and all in all, I am a satisfied reader.
