I admit it when I first saw My Brother and Me I thought that the acting was awful but when I started to watch it I saw a great show for kids. I am an African American and I never once thought of the show as stereotypical. I always thought that they lived in the suburbs of North Carolina,not in the hood. MY brother and me was a show about children's problems such as selling candy to make money,trying out for the basketball team,pulling pranks on your siblings,and dealing with bullies.
When it did air on Nickelodeon I taped as many episodes as I could before they took it off for good and I am glad I did. This show kinda reminds me of Leave it to Beaver with an older sister. As far as the thinking out loud how long did that last on The Wonder Years?
To sum it all up My Brother and Me was and still is a great show for kids to relate to. If Nick would have given it a chance they could have taken acting classes. I find the ending of the series -- and the official beginning of their "romantic" relationship to be a bit contrived. It's like they told Hari-san to "wrap it up" already because it was getting too long It's not a usual place to end the series. I will admit that the series was getting a bit long.
Most of her characters don't make astounding changes or realizations from the first pages. Without major changes in plot or characters the story is bound to get stale by the end. It's still a cute series -- I often reread it -- but there are some parts that I often skip over. Including the short stories at the end of the book. Sometimes I'll go back and read them, but I don't feel like I miss anything when I don't.
The brothers are easily the "same" characters, only less complicated as in Ouran High School Host Club. If you enjoy Ouran, you'll probably like this one. Keempat kakak tersebut punya kepribadian yang berbeda-beda, tapi tipikal banget harem di shoujo manga: Masashi si anak sulung yang pencemas dan keibuan, Takashi anak kedua berkacamata yang kalem dan kebapakan, Tsuyoshi anak ketiga yang agak temperamental tapi sangat protektif, dan Takeshi anak keempat yang badannya paling tinggi tapi paling pendiam. Belakangan malah diketahui bahwa Sakura dan keempat kakak laki-lakinya sama sekali nggak berhubungan darah.
Sakura adalah anak hasil hubungan ibunya dengan pria lain, yang lantas menjadi celah bagi Sakura untuk melabuhkan hatinya pada si kakak sulung, Masashi yang jauh lebih tua dan kerap berpakaian wanita. Masashi bukan banci atau gay. Dia berpakaian perempuan karena ingin mendalami perasaan wanita demi profesinya sebagai seorang penulis novel dan juga niatnya menjadi sosok ibu bagi Sakura ngehe banget.
Tapi kegemarannya ini lumayan menghibur kok, soalnya bikin Tsuyoshi jengkel dan mereka biasanya bakal ribut-ribut.
Dimulai dari Masashi yang berusaha menjadi ibu bagi Sakura, persis Tamaki yang merupakan sosok ibu di antara anggota klub. Juga sudah jadi ciri khas shoujo manga kalau ada harem cowok pasti bakalan ada tokoh berkacamata, tokoh pendiam berbadan tinggi dan tokoh berisik.

I haven't seen this film in years, but it remains my standard of what a great film should be. Some of the most beautiful imagery celluloid has ever seen. Through its simplicity of character and plot it creates complex layers of thought, questioning reality, family, and perhaps even existence. Few films compete with its clarity and none out shine it. Also, it seems that women really relate to this film, though there is no leading female character that I remember.
