The depiction of naval battles was new to me, and something that I am growing fond of even as I re-read. I have yet to find a book that depicts naval warfare quite like this book does. Oct 21, Ryan Dash rated it it was ok. The book introduced an interesting concept with relatively uninteresting execution — it could have had lots more cool tricks. The main character developed his mysterious ability far too quickly.

The other characters, though, were reasonably well done. Many plural nouns contained apostrophes for no reason and several misspelled words. Nevertheless, the idea of a separate spiritual realm is clear in this story as is the point that even specially gifted persons can not use their gifts under their own power. Disappointing ending, did leave me wanting to read the rest of the trilogy,as much was unresolved. Ending was disap fantasy with Christian themes fairly well done, with the exception noted that Somers needs a better editor,if he had one at all.

Ending was disappointing in that it was too abrupt, as the "Storyteller" apparently just got tired and made us wait for another day. I will read the next volume to see if defeat can be turned into victory I don't like unhappy endings. Feb 14, Cristian rated it really liked it. I found it by accident since I was just looking for free books in my nook and stumbled upon this one.

I really enjoy these types of adventure series. In which the main characters has to go into hiding because the main villain controls the world or something. Other than the fact he learned to use his powers out of the blue and actually managed to control them so quickly bothered me some, but not enough to stop reading. Oct 23, Andreea Pausan rated it liked it. Ethan is the deliverer, he cannot be seen by demons and has the ability to pass between the physical and the demon plane.

After his parents are killed, he joins the fight against the demons who try to take over the land and have captured his sister, discovering new abilities an powers as the fight grows fierce. Predictable come of age story. The characters do not have enough depth, the plot lacks a careful construction and the fight scenes have a cinematic quality to them, like they were built o Ethan is the deliverer, he cannot be seen by demons and has the ability to pass between the physical and the demon plane.

The characters do not have enough depth, the plot lacks a careful construction and the fight scenes have a cinematic quality to them, like they were built only for visual effect and not as connecting dots for the story line. Feb 02, Andy rated it liked it. The book was good, somewhat short and obvious references to Jesus and god, but it had plenty of action and had the hero's journey almost down to a T.

All in all If you have time to kill and nothing to read this book will fill it in pretty well. Dec 21, Kendra Ardnek rated it liked it Shelves: The plot and premise were wonderful, and the Christian message clear though not forced or pushy. However, the writing was kluncky, and there were a few scenes that required too much suspension of belief.

Sep 12, Mistyblue rated it it was amazing Shelves: I'm hooked on Mr. He seamlessly combines fantasy and Christian fiction in a way that makes me think, and gives me great pleasure to ponder.

The Realm Shift

Please try again later. I've read the first book in this series and am half-way through the second. I will post this review to both books since my thoughts are the same. First off, the good. The story is paced pretty well and moves along just fine. There are no drawn-out descriptive passages. So that's the good. That same pacing and lack of descriptive passages means there is almost no backstory here. We're immediately introduced to these characters and off we go.

At one end of the spectrum is Robert Jordan or Steven Erikson in particular who have well-thought out, if occasionally burdensome places, races, events of the past, etc. Sometimes they can be a bit overwhelming. But here we have the exact opposite and it leaves the story rather unsatisfying. Also, as numerous people have noted, the books are in serious need of an editor. I read about sword fights with "lunges and faints", and sentences like "Anyone remotely alert wonder why he was here. I sometimes think the Internet has had the same effect on books as it has on music. The ability to self-publish books and release music digitally has been a mixed blessing.

Sometimes bands that would otherwise not have been widely heard or authors that would not have been widely heard have found an audience. However, I also think this "democratization" has really lowered the quality bar of what's out there for both music and books. In a world where a publisher had to be involved in getting this book out there, it would never have seen the light of day, or would have done so as a radically different final product.

The story starts out with us finding the Avatar of the Almighty living i a small village that is burned by Mordred who is trying to prevent his on death told in a prophecy. The boy and his sister escape and the boy goes through learning more about what he is becoming. As a fantasy story even with obvious religious overtones , I enjoyed it just for the reading. We have a very confused individual who is special and is becoming involved in momentous events.

The story flowed and never slowed down.

Would like to have seen the volume be a bit longer. And it looks like the editing has been redone as I did not see those errors.

Time Shift Trilogy Book Series: leondumoulin.nl

There have been many successful forays into Christian fantasy - CS Lewis being amongst the very best at producing entertaining yet spiritually insightful works. Unfortunately, this work cannot be ranked among these successes. The book follows the classic format of young farm boy discovers he has hidden talents which enable him to conquer evil and save the world. It's been done a million times and despite the repetition can be very enjoyable to read. I think my main problem with this work is that it's too clearly separated into Good and Evil.
