The author's description of the characters and events makes you feel like you actually know the characters in the story.

Nurse Hal's "blunders" often times makes you smile as she tries to learn and adapt to the many, often unspoken customs of the Amish people.

You can feel the tension on both sides as the Plain characters and the English characters try to coexist with completely opposite points of view and attempt to find a compromise that they both can find acceptable with their given convictions. Growing up on a farm in Ohio and personal experience with the "plain" life, I found the characters and their reactions very believable and entertaining. I have read both books in the series. The story is good but alot of typos or misspelled words are definitely a turn off.

I thought maybe it was just something with the first book but unfortunately not. One person found this helpful. Full of grammatical and spelling mistakes.
