I have spent the past 18 years struggling through every little decision wondering if its the right one, wondering if I'm doing things right, wondering if I'm doing enough, certain that I'm not doing enough, feeling guilty that I can't do more for my children and inadequate because I'm not perfect and I make mistakes - all the time.

Enter "Parenting in the Here and Now," this was a pretty emotional book for me to read because I felt like every page was speaking directly to me and acknowledging all of my struggles. The author addresses a whole range of everyday struggles that I have encountered with all of my children and offers beautiful insight and clear, easy to follow suggestions for how best to resolve these issues as they arise, or better yet, how to avoid them entirely with a little fore thought.

While consistently reminding us that we don't need to be perfect, we just need to keep striving. This gem of a book is what every parent struggling with feelings of guilt or inadequacy needs. It is a powerful tool to build you up and help you gain the confidence to believe that you are enough; that we each have our own path as parents and as long as we are striving to do our best and we do it with so much love, that is exactly what our children need.

We all make mistakes, Life is not perfect, most of the time it's pretty messy, and that is so okay. I have read many parenting books and I can honestly say that this book is now at the top of my list. You won't be sorry.

A biomechanical analysis of the realization of actual human gait transition

The only thing I don't agree with, but that's just a personal matter, is that kids younger than 6 should not be given choices. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what I read but I find that a few choices some of the time is a useful cooperation tool. Overwhelming them with choices obviously not useful. I found some good advice here for dealing with disrespectful talking and behavior in particular, and I was also relieved to discover that the fact that my little ones are resisting chores at this point is just fine.

Reading this book is like taking a walk with a wise, witty, loving friend and mentor, someone who has been just where you are, but isn't telling you what to do- instead she's providing a calm, judgment free yet very practical approach to helping you realize you already have what you need. What a breath of fresh air! I have read many, many parenting books and this is the first one I have read that has made clear to me areas where I need to change Reading her advice was like a light bulb going off for me. We have a lot of work to do.

I know that some of the changes I'm going to slowly make over time will absolutely help my kids and our whole family. My husband has never ever read a parenting book but if he's going to read one, this is the one. Thank you for writing this book Lea! It's come at a perfect time for us, and is articulating so many things we need right now.

Parenting in the Here and Now is a clear, respectful and compassionate guide for parents seeking a calm, mindful approach to child-rearing.

Editorial Reviews

With helpful, detailed examples, many from her own parenting, Lea shows parents how to keep their cool as they respond to difficult behavior in a thoughtful, non-judgmental manner. The emphasis on kind but decisive action over words will help parents minimize shame and side-step control battles, while also fostering a strong parent-child bond and facilitating the development of respectful, self-confident children.

Lea offers guidelines on how to establish supportive family routines, encourage smooth transitions, foster creative play, channel energy constructively, help children learn to share and help children learn to cope with sibling rivalry and other inevitable conflicts. I highly recommend this book. Whether you are a new parent or already well into your parenting journey, you are likely to gain insights that will make your job easier in the long run. I will place a copy of this book in my waiting room and look forward to recommending it to clients. It's the first parenting book that makes me feel like an adequate mom.

Finally, a book that acknowledges that we are all striving to be our best selves for our children, that there is not only one truth or one way to become the perfect parent A book that acknowledges that we won't always have the appropriate response to a child's behavior yes, even after reading this book!

    Realization (systems)

The characters were very well developed. I shared many of the same situations and dilemmas as the main character in a recent relationship.

It was almost like I had dated Rose or someone close to her perhaps an older sister. I look back on my experience and the parallels are striking.

I can only imagine the pain he suffered. I share his relief. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. Hey Ryan, it's Cindy under my mom's profile. I just want to congratulate you on this step towards making a dream come true. Even though I feel I've heard much of this before it has been a nice eye opening of sorts into your personal feelings yes I know this is fictional, but you can understand where I'm coming from.

Keep living your dreams; you deserve it!! Oh, and thank you for a very entertaining read! One person found this helpful. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first opened the book, but I was quickly drawn in by a story that is very relatable and real. I was impressed by the good character development and the rich personalities of each character. The book gives you a different perspective on relationships new and old that makes you question how much you really know about people close to you.

You often find yourself in the main character's shoes as he struggles to determine the most advantageous route in his relationship with his newly found girlfriend, his quarrelsome parents, and his friends; all the while approaching graduation and the beginning of a career. You may discover that someone that once seemed perfect is more flawed than you know, and that others that seemed on the wrong side of things can change for the better.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and its very real look at the hardships within relationships and the silver lining found in the midst.
