This book 3 in the series spends most of its time in the world of gangs and police state, following our hero as he tries to stay one step ahead.

Its fun to ride with him, but not as satisfying as the first book when we learned much more about the characters and their relationships. This is a series badly in need of a competent editor. While the plot is interesting, the dialog is unbelievably clunky and unrealistic. The author repeats himself a lot in describing the character's motivations, and ultimately, you stop caring. Ballard again does not disappoint with the 3rd installment of the Bridge Chronicles. A very good cyberpunk read. Can't wait for the soon to be released 4th installment.

This book the third in the series was better than the second, and on par with the first, as far as how it held my attention. The plot was interesting, as was the main character. I sometimes get lost with the dialogue and start tuning out, but I got the overall gist. I listened to the Audible audio edition narrated by Joe Hempel.

I think he does well with giving each character a unique voice, but I just got so tired of the street talk. That, and I listened to the first three books back-to-back, so I may have gotten a bit burned out on it. Overall, its an interesting book and if you're a fan of cyperpunk, you will enjoy the series. This is the third and final novel in "The Bridge Chronicles", a cyberpunk trilogy set in a near future where corporations own contracts for law enforcement and local government. The premise is not too far-fetched, but the uncomfortable plausibility is offset by a punchy storyline seen through the eyes of the coolest anti-hero money can sometimes buy.

I have enjoyed the entire trilogy of "The Bridge Chronicles".

The main protagonist is gutsy, seemingly amoral at times, clever and decisive. I'll take my heroes flawed thanks and Artemis Bridge is about as suspect a role model as anyone could ask for. Bridge retains his characteristic sarcastic wit despite the many life threatening situations in which he and his friends find themselves.

The Bridge Chronicles Trilogy

But this time he is driven by more than self protection and expectation of financial gain. This time the fate of the five families and his whole way of life is at risk. But if he can also make some money from it - well, he is Bridge, the bridge, the fixer The story is a glorious romp of explosions, fighting, verbal repartee, double dealings and even some techno magic. And Bridge's trademark iingenious solutions. He's not a conventionally nice man by any means but lovable?

Joe Hempel captures all of this to perfection. Evenly paced narration with distinctive individual voices in dialogue, he simply is Bridge, the man who "knows a guy" for any situation. There is sufficient background material worked into the story to make it comprehensible and enjoyable. But for the full immersion iinto the who, why and all round pleasure, start at the beginning with book one. A real treat for every fan of superfast action and ideas, with terrific characters acting on unexpected ideas in a good versus bad scenario though sometimes it can be hard to tell which is which!

He occasionally does noble acts, and is a well-developed character in the sense that he genuinely does contain multitudes. Characterization really is Gary A. Read the rest of the review at Hardcover Wonderland. Dec 11, Ernst Vorndran rated it really liked it.

He just collects a fee and bridges the gap. I loved this anti-hero. His scruples are all out of whack. He helps people get what they want, he keeps his coffers filled, he keeps his a vast know network, all while on occasion helping someone, but never for the good of others, always for himself first. Thus Bridge assisting someone is a byproduct of him looking out for only himself.

I loved this about the main character. The secondary characters are just as interesting.

Readers are given a political science studying footballer who can no longer play the sport turned muscle for hire, turned ganger, turned gang leader, along with a highly intelligent philosophical body guard, the god of all GlobalNet hackers and technomancers which are in essence scientists with a highly secretive technology that allows them to manipulate everything and just simply label it as magic. In between the books and the short stories he explains how Bridge came to be a character, how the book grew from serial blog posts to books and the book of all the books.

He also goes into some detail about just how detrimentally bad a governing body owned by corporations would be. Sometimes when I read a book I find myself thinking about what was the author thinking. Ballard has taken the time and put some of his thoughts into this book. I really enjoyed that feature of The Bridge Chronicles. As a whole book, The Bridge Chronicles is great. The reader gets three novellas: The three books total to pages, with the added short stories and authors thoughts this is easily a page book.
