This was a great read; very easy and a little different with it's underlying theme of reincarnation and karma and how all the choices we make have consequences and not always the intended consequence.

Editorial Reviews

The story is about Natalie. We are first introduced to her in the late s in France. Then she is reborn in the 20th century in New England. We follow Natalie and the people in her life and the choices she makes. There is always the undercurrent of spiritual themes of karma and how each life we live is meant for us to learn from and grow closer to our true destiny.

It is not overly imbued with spiritual themes of reincarnation, it was just enough to make it interesting. Really enjoyed this book and it's different themes. The Jnani Book Club selected "Field of Destiny" because we wanted to read a book that reflected on reincarnation. What a nice surprise to find "Field of Destiny" and to find such a lovely, local author in a nearby town. Our group took a month to read the novel, then we invited Patricia Sheehy to join us for discussion.

First, let me tell you how much the ladies liked "Field of Destiny". It was such fun to get carried away in the drama of the characters, just like in real life, with little thought of past or future lives.

Patricia sat with us like an old friend, explaining how she wove the story of souls through several lifetimes. It really got us thinking about the lessons that we all have to learn in this game of life that we are playing. The characters were so well developed that we found ourselves anxious to learn more about them. And with this theme of rebirth, we can go on and on following our favorite characters through as many lifetimes as our talented author Patricia Sheehy chooses.

This was one of those books that was difficult to put down after the first couple of chapters. Pleasantly whiled away an entire weekend with it!

Fortress Field

What kept me going was the thread of hope Sheehy strings from start to finish, against a backdrop of spirituality, with some romance thrown in. Just what I needed, while going through some difficult personal circumstances that are calling up reserves of strength and spiritual fortitude. It was very easy to connect with the characters and really makes you think about those times in your own life when you've felt so comfortable with someone you've met only once. It was also fun to see how Sheehy portrayed the women and their treatment by men in the book, across different periods of history.

Really looking forward to the release of Sheehy's next work, just in time for a good summer read. Patricia Sheehy is not only great at writing a wonderful story but she adds real depth to her words to make you think about your own life. When she writes about how we possibly are here repeating past events to learn and grow spiritually it makes so much sense.

Particulary, if you have ever encountered people you know that you met before but just can't place why you feel you know them or are so comfortable with them. I can't wait for the sequal. Thought provoking story and very well written. Patricia visited our book club and was as charming and interesting as her book! Sheehy has created characters that stay with you and a plot that keeps you turning pages.

Even as we get entangled in the protagonist's earthly struggle with her destiny, we are forced to think about the big questions. Are we destined for our future? Do we make our own choices? Is our path the one we are meant to take in this life? Lists with This Book. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Apr 02, Karen rated it it was amazing. How often is it that you rethink a choice you made years ago, perhaps days or even moments ago? Natalie is a compelling character, remarkably bright, uncommonly beautiful and witty. The novel follows Natalie from her fateful birth to an unwed mother, Marilyn, who refuses to release Natalie to her adoptive parents. We follow Natalie as she comes-of-age during the Sixties and matures into womanhood in the late Seventies and early Eighties. Readers will cheer for her and weep with her as she struggles to learn karmic lessons of loyalty, truth, and love against the backdrop of social and racial shifts.

Natalie must discover Truth for herself and determine to whom or what does she owe her loyalty. In contrast, Aunt Willie tries to encourage Natalie to trust the wisdom that resides in her heart, not her head. To both she owes karmic debts—to one forgiveness and the other unconditional love. Every character is emotionally and physically vivid, ripe with their own flaws and redeeming qualities. Readers will quickly love or hate each character accordingly. Sheehy is a master at weaving metaphysical stories with a powerful, evocative style.
